We do our best to: + Demonstrate a desire to assist + Listen for understanding and respond empathetically + Explain things in a manner that is easy to understand + Be knowledgeable students of our business + Take full ownership to resolve questions and issues + Be professional, polite and courteous + Leave our customers and associates “better than where we found them” **Summary of Position** This position will report to the Vice President, Underwriting and Commercial Mortgage Loans and is responsible for the day-to-day coaching and management of their Underwriting team, as well as the implementation of the sales strategy as it relates to underwriting. Primary responsibilities include managing a team of underwriters and underwriting specialists. The position is responsible for managing new business and renewal assignments, quality review of case assignments, collaborating with Distribution management, reviewing complex cases, and providing guidance to ensure accurate risk assessment. This position will have oversight of the Workplace Solutions team. As Manager of Underwriting, responsibilities include: + Coaching and management of all Workplace Solutions underwriters and support staff with a focus on teaching, mentoring, and review of work emphasizing a balance between profitability and risk exposure. + Ensuring all underwriting is done within established internal authority guidelines. + Oversight and management of entire underwriting process, ensuring deadlines are being met and pended submissions are addressed in a timely manner. + Achieve new business and retention objectives. + Ensure effective utilization of monitoring standards including audit and quality review to assess underwriting results and positive loss ratios.Work with other internal departments to resolve escalated billing, claims, premium collection, EOI, and enrollment issues/questions within authority; mitigate risk; and improve efficiencies. + Be the Underwriting point person for escalated requests from the Distribution team. + Block management – work with management to oversee portfolio management. Be a leader in implementing block management initiatives designed to improve performance and support sales goals. Ensure execution of these initiatives. + Review, evaluate, and recommend modifications to underwriting guidelines and workflows. + Special department projects including new product development, training, and reporting as needed. + Participate as a Subject Matter Expert in assigned projects representing Workplace Solutions Underwriting.. **Qualifications & Knowledge Requirements** Education: Bachelor’s Degree and/or equivalent work experience required. Experience: 7+ years of related insurance experience required Knowledge Requirements: + Strong business knowledge. + Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively build and extend relationships. + Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with a strong decision-making capacity; demonstrated ability to take initiative with a “can do” attitude. + Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to context, substance and detail. + Excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills. + Shows initiative with the ability to create and implement changes that will improve workflow. + Working knowledge of Boston Mutual Workplace Solutions or related industry products, enrollment systems and administrative processes preferred. + Exceptional skills using MS Office. Certifications/Licensures: CLU and/or ALMI/FLMI preferred but not required.
