 The Role

As the Managing Director, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEIB), you’ll be integral to our work in helping vulnerable children achieve a brighter future. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing DEIB strategies that position Save the Children as a leader in DEIB initiatives. As a business leader, change agent, and trusted advisor, you will focus on maturing the DEIB function, aligning tactical efforts with strategic goals, and creating a cohesive DEIB framework. Reporting to the Chief People & Equity Officer and leading a dedicated DEIB team, you will provide thought leadership and drive practical DEIB efforts while balancing legal, organizational, and cultural considerations.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

DEIB Strategy and Execution (65%)

Develop and Implement DEIB Strategy: Create and operationalize a cohesive DEIB strategy across the Agency that includes measurable goals and aligns with the overall Strategic Plan. US and International Programs: Provide strategic consultation, guidance, and direction for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEIB) initiatives across both U.S. and international programs. Global Perspective: Provide strategic leadership, guidance, and consultation to internal stakeholders across both U.S. and international regions, partnering closely with colleagues to advance and align DEIB objectives. Collaborate to develop and execute initiatives that support global DEIB goals, driving a culture of inclusion and belonging across all teams and ensuring alignment with organizational priorities. Integrate DEIB Across Business Processes: Embed DEIB goals and practices into all Agency processes to enhance alignment with organizational outcomes. Stakeholder Influence: Build trusted partnerships with leaders and key stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of DEIB strategy throughout the Agency. Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as a DEIB expert, advocating for inclusive culture and addressing complex issues impacting both culture and business success. Talent Integration: Work with the talent team to embed DEIB principles into hiring, development, and retention practices. Metrics and Accountability: Develop and implement DEIB metrics, providing regular dashboard reports, and recommending strategic adjustments based on findings. Policy Evaluation: Regularly assess and refine policies and procedures with a DEIB perspective to ensure inclusivity and fairness. Communications: Act as the Agency spokesperson on DEIB in absence of Chief People & Equity Officer, providing guidance for both internal and external DEIB communications.

DEIB Council and Employee Affinity Groups (20%)

Affinity Group Leadership: Champion Save the Children’s affinity groups by fostering an inclusive environment that amplifies diverse voices, driving engagement, and increasing impact across the organization.

Leadership and Team Management (10%)

Team Development: Lead, mentor, and manage the DEIB team, cultivating a collaborative and innovative environment. Stakeholder Collaboration: Build strong relationships with cross-functional teams to align DEIB programs with organizational initiatives. Staff Development: Train, develop, coach, and supervise staff, clearly communicating organization, division and department priorities, and how their work contributes to our mission, ensuring that the working environment continually fosters diversity, inclusion, and belonging – supporting Save the Children values.

Compliance and Risk Management (5%)

Regulatory Reporting: Oversee data collection for Affirmative Action and EEO-1 reports, working with external firms to analyze findings and provide recommendations to People & Culture leadership.

Required qualifications for the role

Education and Experience: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, with at least 10 years in DEIB or relevant roles, and 8+ years leading DEIB initiatives within large, global organizations. Proven DEIB Impact: Experience successfully embedding DEIB into the culture of a mission-driven, global organization. Executive Advisor: Skilled at advising senior leaders and executives on DEIB strategies, leading change to achieve measurable progress. DEIB Program Leadership: Experience managing DEIB teams, initiatives, and programs that support organizational goals. Global Perspective: Demonstrated respect for cultural differences and nuances in international contexts. Analytical Skills: Proficient in DEIB metrics and analysis, with experience in translating insights into actionable recommendations. Communication: Proficient in MS Office; fluent in spoken and written English; able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization. Commitment to DEIB: Demonstrated dedication to creating and sustaining an environment that fosters diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Compensation

Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $131,750 – $147,250 base salary  Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $119,850 – $133,950 base salary  Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $107,950 – $120,650 base salary 

The salary ranges listed above are for US based candidates. For candidates located outside of the US, salary ranges will be based on the salary scales of the local employer of record. Actual base salary may vary based on, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location (more information on job structure is available here).
