Managing Director, Life Sciences

Job Summary:

BDO is looking for a top performing a Life Sciences Managing Director within its Industry Specialty Services (ISSG) practice. The Life Sciences Managing Director will be responsible for the strategic growth of new clients, account leadership, and the expansion of services. Ideally, our Life Sciences Managing director possesses a rich understanding of the trends, relationships, impacts, and problems related to the life sciences industry, pharma manufacturing (to include CRO / CMO), funding, medical devices, and other areas. In addition, this individual will understand not only operational processes, but organizational mission-support processes, and demonstrate adeptness in conveying value propositions related to BDO’s solution stack. 

Working hand-in-hand with ISSG Principals and Managing Directors, this individual will qualify targets, secure relationships, uncover opportunities, develop effective sales strategies, manage the pursuit process, and act as a key advisor to the pursuit team throughout the sales process.  

Job Duties:

Develop and close business related to the Life Sciences Industry, which includes: 

Performs upstream activities, i.e. VC, PE, grant-makers, etc.    Performs operational services, i.e. CMC across all modalities and therapeutic areas   Performs mission support services including organizational strategy, enterprise optimization, financial strategy and enablement, risk and compliance, technology enablement, and other functions that enable client success   Identifies and stratifies each market, which includes defining the Total Addressable Market (TAM), Serviceable Available Market (SAM), and Serviceable Obtainable Market (SOM)    Determines trends, relationships, impacts, and problems as it relates to the life science industry   Assists in the prioritization of pursuit and development activities, helps create capture and account strategies, and provides liaison to internal and external outreach activities, i.e., marketing, conferences, etc.  Leverages a network of executive through manager-level relationships to reinforce knowledge of services and capabilities through formal and informal “marketing” opportunities to secure a competitive edge, foster trust, and drive the evolution of BDO’s brand identity, helping to solidify our credibility in technology  Builds and maintains long-term relationships with Managers, VP/Director level influencers, buyers, including existing clients to identify selling opportunities  Leverages insights to help account leaders evaluate opportunities, shape strategy on where to focus efforts and create a demand forecast for consulting services   Addresses and course-corrects partnership concerns diplomatically with account executive team and stakeholders, as necessary  Other duties as required 

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree, required Advanced degree MS, MBA, PhD, or ScD, preferred 

Experience:

Ten (10) or more years of experience managing complex clients and sales cycles, required Experience developing and growing project-based, professional consulting services, characterized by long sales cycles and both large and small dollar transactions, required Successful track record of business development within the Life Science industry segments, required Experience building relationships, networking and influencing CXOs and senior business decision-makers, required Experience and adept at aligning teams to work toward a common goal, consistently demonstrates strong people management skills, required

Software:

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, required 

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Ability to create profitable annuity streams selling services  Excellent knowledge of Life Sciences marketplace, including subject matter knowledge of CMC product development, including expertise in one or more of the following areas: process and analytical development, manufacturing, QA/QC, supply chain, regulatory  Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; able to adapt communication style to multiple stakeholders and cultures  Ability to travel up to 40-50%, on average, based on work, client, and industry/sector needs
