Managing Director of Curriculum and Instruction – Math Role Mission: The mission of the Managing Director of Math is to define and represent the K-12 Math program model for Texas, Louisiana, Florida & Ohio schools to stakeholders, lead the selection and creation of curriculum, and develop content support services for a respective content with the goal of preparing IDEA students for success to and through college. Working in a highly distributed charter environment, the Managing Director of Math will manage a team of Curriculum Managers through the coaching cycle to ensure the creation of comprehensive, user-friendly, engaging, and aligned approach to curriculum, assessment, and teacher support to achieve the IDEA organizational goals for student achievement in grades K – 12, including state and national assessments. Supervisory Responsibilities: Manage and lead a team of six to twelve curriculum managers Location:This is a full-time hybrid position based in Texas with preference given to candidates who live in Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin (Midland/Odessa), Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, and Tarrant County (Fort Worth), or who are willing to relocate. Travel Expectations: Up to 25% of time during busiest times of year; travel by commercial air may be required What You’ll Do – Accountabilities Essential Duties: Design and implement core academic program model for Math in grade levels K-12 across the network, in all states, so that leaders can articulate program rationale and strategically plan for student success Define the mission, vision, course sequence, budget, and academic model for K-12 . Support the vision for vertical alignment of all K-12 grade level content in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Ohio Write and communicate content-specific academic and instructional policies for Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Ohio schools Lead the district-wide implementation of core content initiatives Hire, coach, develop and retain team of high-performing Curriculum Managers in grades K-12 and achieve 85% voluntary retention of Curriculum Managers. Monitor progress toward team goals and bolster team retention with quality check-ins, strategy meetings, and quarterly meetings Monitor professional growth of CMs through coaching and development mechanisms, including real time feedback, quality check-ins, etc. Create and execute individualized professional development plans Serve as the hiring manager for the curriculum manager role including candidate selection, interviews, onboarding, and offboarding duties Lead a high-performing curriculum team to select, design, create and distribute impactful curriculum products for each school year. Manage team to design and deliver quality curricular products including a full suite of assessments as applicable to individual curriculum manager role Conduct regular quality reviews to evaluate curriculum Solicit feedback from end-user and utilize feedback to inform curriculum revisions and refinement Positively impact student achievement results to achieve annually established org-wide achievement goals. Lead yearly instructional material review, procurement, and adoption process for Work within the AST team and across IDEA departments to develop teacher and leader professional development sessions and resources so that IDEA Public Schools is rated an A district and achieves AP goals. Lead a high performing curriculum team to design, support and evaluate a series of teacher/leader-facing professional development and support services that is rated as high-quality by participants; with ad-hoc support of PD session design & facilitation Work with VP of Curriculum & Instruction, Human Assests, and Schools Team partners to contribute to the creation of the teacher onboarding program during New Teacher Institute to increase new teacher effectiveness in executing the district curriculum Analyze student achievement results, identify trends and communicate course corrections to support improvement to meet student achievement goals Lead the team to analyze and share weekly student achievement data and analysis Ongoing data analysis with various stakeholders to highlight student achievement, effectiveness, professional development participation, feedback and teacher observation data Conduct regular campus observations with team members and school leaders to provide explicit feedback and next steps on curriculum implementation so that the district achieves the District A Rating. Gather feedback from teachers and leaders on the usability, feasibility, and effectiveness of the curriculum and assessments ESSENTIALS DUTIES Work on a distributed team where much of the work is completed remotely. Lead, attend and actively participate in weekly team meetings and monthly strategy meetings Provide feedback to colleagues and work collaboratively with other members of the Academics lead team, members of the larger Academic Services Team, and across multi-functioning HQ teams Travel outside of region of residence for site visits and collaborative team workshops Conduct regular campus observations within the region of residence to inform decision making & build stakeholder relationships What You Bring – Competencies Knowledge and Skills:Knowledge of state accountability systems for Texas, Florida, Louisiana, and Ohio Knowledge of states assessment systems in Texas, Florida, Louisiana and Ohio Knowledge of National Assessment systems; AP preferred Knowledge of the research on content-area best practices Knowledge of the elements and process of curriculum design and development Exceptional organization and communication skills with the ability to develop communications for a variety of stakeholders Exceptionable problem-solving ability Ability to take initiative and develop and maintain collaborative business partnerships with various teams Required experience:Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or advanced degree preferred; Educator Certification Experience: A minimum of five years teaching experience in the relevant content area A strong record of student achievement results as a teacher A strong record of results as a curriculum writer or system-wide administrator Experience designing system-wide assessments, curriculum products, and professional development in the relevant content area Preferred experience:Preferred Experience managing budgets comprised of discretionary and restricted funding Preferred Experience completing curriculum reviews or audits Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk Ability to lift up to 20 pounds at times What We Offer:
Compensation & Benefits:Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $108,000-$121,000, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for performance pay based on organizational performance and goal attainment.
