Adams County has an opening for a Mandatory Reporter and Community Trainer position working for the Children, Youth and Families Division. The Children, Youth and Families Division provides protective services to children, as well as foster care, adoption, adolescent services, therapeutic treatment and other community services that help create strong, effective families. The Mandatory Reporter and Community Trainer will develop training materials to educate the community about mandatory reporting requirements, the elements of a referral to the child abuse/neglect hotline, the legal definitions of child abuse/neglect and promote prevention partnerships and collaboration when appropriate. The trainer position will also offer the community and stakeholders training about preventative support that can offered by Adams County to help curb unnecessary referrals to the hotline. This position will work closely with the Prevention Community Partners as well as the Collaborative Management Program. Such partners will include, but are not limited to school districts, the judicial system, law enforcement, medical and behavioral health providers and other community partners with the goal of decreasing the need for protective service system involvement and enhancing community partnerships. This position exists to improve collaboration with community partners and to contribute towards improved agency practice and outcomes with the children and families including reducing recurrence/recidivism and enhancing the quality of referrals to the child abuse/neglect hotline. Examples of Duties for Success + Assist with the development of the child welfare mandatory reporter training curriculum incorporating, but not limited to Volume VII, the Prevention mission and vision, child abuse/neglect data, and resources. + Identify key stakeholders such as schools, foster parents, hospitals, law enforcement agencies, etc. + Maintains a current list of contacts for key mandated reporter stakeholders in Adams County. + Establish positive working relationships with the community and mandated reporters. + Facilitates mandatory reporter trainings on and off-site, as well as virtually, for schools, foster parents, hospitals, law enforcement agencies, and other mandated reporters. + Meets with individuals to provide one-to-one prevention and child welfare mandatory reporter training. + Develop a feedback mechanism for mandated reporters who receive mandatory reporter training from ACDHS. + Establish and maintain a mandatory reporter tracking system in order to drive data informed decision making. + Acts as a resource or subject matter expert in prevention and child welfare, providing education and guidance to the community and mandated reporters. + Meets and communicates with supervisor regarding data trends, mandated reporter needs, and planning for future mandated reporter activities. + Evaluates mandatory reporter program and makes recommendations to supervisor and manager with information obtained from program evaluations. + Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required. Qualifications for Success + Skills and abilities that involve written and verbal communication techniques for, correspondence, providing customer service, giving presentations, public speaking, education, and feedback. + Ability to provide training to groups and provide coaching one-to-one for mandated reporters. + Ability to prepare and make oral presentations before large groups of people utilizing visual aids. + Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. + Ability to exercise tact and courtesy while in frequent contact with county and other public officials of various levels of authority and influence, as well as the general public. + Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. + Computer Skills: Proficient in Word, PowerPoint, and the development of presentation and training materials. + Possess expert knowledge/awareness of child welfare practice including Volume VII, FFPSA, state regulations, county policies, and continue to participate in ongoing training as needed, recommended, or requested (40 hours annually). + Ability to work in potentially unsafe situations, effectively manage stress, utilize active listening skills, process/analyze/interpret large amounts of data, and problem solve. + Adhere to the Adams County Norms and Values and Children & Family Services Guiding Principles. More Qualifications for Success + Experience– Three years of full-time, professional social casework experience acquired after the degree in a public or private social services agency in an area appropriate to the position. + Education– A Bachelor's Degree in a Human Behavioral Science field. A Master's Degree in a Behavioral Science or a Bachelor's of Social Work may substitute for 1 year of the required experience. A Master's of Social Work may substitute for two years of the required experience. + License or Certificate – Certified Caseworker or the ability to obtain certification within 3 months of hire. + Background Check – Must pass a criminal (CBI) background check Adams County complies with Colorado’s Job Application Fairness Act (“JAFA”).
