**Manual Machinist** **Job Description** As a Manual Machinist, you will be responsible for laying out metal stock, setting up and operating machine tools, and fitting and assembling parts to fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools. You will perform these tasks by adhering to detailed specifications and employing your expertise in various machining techniques. **Responsibilities** + Study specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts. + Compute dimensions, plan layout, and determine assembly methods and sequence of operations. + Measure, mark, and scribe metal stock for machining. + Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, EDM, Pantograph, and grinders to machine parts, and verify conformance of machined parts to specifications. + Lift machined parts and position and secure parts on surface plates or worktables. + Smooth flat and contoured surfaces using power grinders, and fit and assemble parts together and into assemblies and mechanisms. + Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances. + Heat-treat tools or parts as required. + Connect wiring and hydraulic lines to install electrical and hydraulic components. + Examine standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommend design modifications regarding construction and function of parts. + Develop specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draw or sketch designs of products. + Plan and construct intricate tools, dies, fixtures, molds, and gauges where accurate relationships, fitting, and interchangeability of parts require extremely close tolerances. + Construct tools where no design is available, determine metal flow in dies, select allowances, perform difficult development work, and make tool tryouts. + Fit and assemble parts involving irregular contours, a large number of holes, or numerous die sections. + Work to extremely close tolerances, often within .0001". + Clean all plates and cavities/cores and moving parts of mold with Dyna-clean. + Repair parts of mold including setting up cores, cavities, ejector pins, and moving parts within .0005 clearance. + Finish parts to print dimensions. + Make new parts for molds according to print and grind stock before heat-treating. + Heat treat parts to specifications per print. + Drill out water lines and counter bore for water lines. + Make holding fixtures and gauges for grinding and/or machining or other departments. + Figure stack-up dimensions of parts. + Plug and bore gauge hole diameters. + Trig angles for grinding and machining. **Essential Skills** + Manual machining + Machinist + Fabricate + Set up + Troubleshooting + Tool and die + Lathe + Machining + Tooling + Mill + Manual lathe + Manual mill + OD grinder **Additional Skills & Qualifications** + Four years or more of experience in the construction, alteration, or repair of complicated tools, dies, molds, and gauges to meet standards. **Why Work Here?** We offer a supportive work environment with opportunities for professional growth and development.
