Manufacturing Chief Engineer - PWT

Manufacturing Chief Engineer (MCE) for Powertrain North America responsible for driving the Manufacturing activities for New Model and Capacity Increase activities within the NA footprint.

The MCE manages the Launch process following the SPW Launch Domain methodology.  He/She ensures the Plant, Process, People and Product are aligned to meet the Volume, Cost and Quality levels needed by the customer.

Starting after Pre-Contract Commitment, this position drives the manufacturing processes compliant to the Propulsion System Development Process (PSDP) program timing as they prepare the industrial assessments and the manufacturing sections of the program Milestone reviews. 

In the project development phase, the MCE ensures alignment with all stakeholders between the objectives of the Plant Want to Be (WTB), project/product perimeter and the best Engineering and Manufacturing Know-how.  He/She ensures the actions to achieve the major KPI’s for the project within the Contract Commitment are executed and escalated as required.  Through the Introduction Workshop, the MCE aligns the Plant, Product and Process to the needs of the project.  The Design for Manufacturing (DfM) roadblocks are escalated by the MCE.  He/She is expected to significantly contribute to the Process Design in coordination with the Plant and Underbody Process Engineering (UPE) to ensure optimal Cost and Quality levels are achieved.

In the Launch phase at the Plant, the MCE coordinates the Plant and Process Engineering team to execute the phases of build to deliver the product to the customer respecting the PSDP timing and process requirements.  In the Ramp-up phase, the MCE manages the closure of the major issues impacting project KPI achievement.  The MCE manages the Lessons Learned throughout the program.

This position works closely with the Product Chief Engineer and Platform Manager, UPE CoC’s as well as the Plant Manager, Master Planning Manager and Launch Manager. He/She supports Customer Experience evaluations as well as Supplier Quality development of suppliers to meet Quality targets and launch objectives.

Additional responsibilities include the development of Standards impacting the role of the MCE and frequent reporting of project status to Manufacturing leadership. 

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree -Business, Engineering or Related Degree 10+ Years' experience in manufacturing operations environment, preferably automotive sector Effectively lead teams with minimal direct reports Strategic leader with effective communication and negotiation skills Understands Product Development cycles and implementation within a launch team Demonstrated experience leading a major manufacturing launch; proficient in lean manufacturing methodology and application Demonstrated ability to achieve targets through excellent organization and influencing of support teams Sets strategy and vision for the organization/team Deep analytical thinker with strong problem-solving abilities Strong ability to communicate and influence at all levels of the organization

Powertrain Manufacturing or Quality Engineering Powertrain Engineering Assembly Operations Stamping Operations International/Global assignment EOE / Disability / Veteran
