Location Description The Lawrence, Kansas facility is 236,000 square feet and home to about 155 hard working team members who are proud to produce iconic pet food brands like Kibbles 'n Bits®. Lawrence is a college town and the home to both the University of Kansas and Haskell Indian Nations University with Kansas State University about 85 miles away. The city is known for a thriving music and art scene and is also the home of the University of Kansas athletic teams. Responsibilities OVERVIEW: Frontline Engineering Resource for sustaining and improving Safety, Quality, Yield, Rates, and efficiencies. Technical Owner of processing and packaging parameters and Technical Oversight / Resource for the operations team. Plant representative and consultant for processing and packaging areas and process changes. Lead small capital projects and technical sponsor for significant capital improvements. Responsibilities and Accountabilities: Best Practice Implementation. Improvement of Process. Application of new technology and equipment to improve process. Support technical training for Operations and provide technical oversight. Provide daily support to sustain current operational performance targets for safety, quality, yield, rate, and efficiency. Lead efforts to improve the current process to achieve planned goals and targets. Support data collection and reporting systems that enable process consistency and process improvement efforts. Support meaningful and accurate data from people and process instrumentation. Identify and recommend new and innovative equipment technologies that support process improvements and projects. Support cost reduction changes related to materials and finished products. Lead small capital projects. Coordinate with internal and external resources commercializing new products. Respond to new processing and packaging requests. Investigate and determine production feasibility. Identify tools, equipment, and methods to produce new products and support new product start-ups and integration. Collaborate with processing and packaging vendors on quality and performance improvement. Provide engineering support for safety improvements. Requirements: Understanding Lean Manufacturing/Continuous Improvement methodologies (Kaizen/5 Whys/Fish-Bone). Must have strong analytical and business judgment, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills. Ability to influence, mentor, and coach to get results through others. Results-driven for being the low-cost producer and supporting company growth strategies. Have a strong bias for action, while proving the ability to inspire others. Convey a high level of optimism while setting aggressive targets for teams and finding ways to achieve them. Communicate a compelling vision and inspired sense of purpose. Experience with Controls Engineering, data acquisition, plc troubleshooting, and programming preferred. Qualifications EDUCATION: 4-year degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Manufacturing) required EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 2-5 year’s experience in manufacturing engineering or similar engineering role.
