SUMMARY
Assists other manufacturing engineers as well as production in developing, transitioning, proving out and executing projects by performing the following duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Product transitions: Aid in and lead transitions from engineering to production using standard operating procedures. Process/Product improvements: General understanding of manufacturing efficiency (Lean practices) to be able to analyze and plan workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout. Creating and leading continuous improvement opportunities to aid in meeting the yearly company goals. Solid Modeling: Assist with designing fixturing and tooling with an approved solid modeling program and creating properly dimensioned drawings to geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) standards (ANSI/ASME Y14.5M-1994). The engineer will be expected to advance their skill level to average and/or proficient. 1-2 years of SolidWorks is preferred. Technical Writing, Reporting & Data Analysis: Spearhead writing and presenting technical reports. Creation and implementation of procedures for use by other engineering or management personnel. The development of good writing skills is essential. Data collection and analysis experience is required. 2-3 years of LabVIEW is preferred. Presentation Skills: Assist with preparing and presenting technical presentations and briefings. Demonstration of the ability to create professional presentations and present them with confidence is an important skill for advancement. Sales Support: Supports sales through proposal writing, conducting analysis, and generating solutions to customers’ requirements, preparing datasheets, customer visits, and preparing cost/bid support information. “Hands On” Related Duties Most of Boyd’s work involves the support of production through designing, fabrication and testing of complex prototype hardware, fixtures, and assemblies. As a result, Boyd encourages “Hands-on” engineering activity. As a result, an engineer will be trained to perform work on the plant floor by assisting other engineers, technicians, production associates in the fabrication, test and delivery of hardware, fixtures, assemblies. This “Hands-on” experience is a valuable learning step as the engineer’s career progresses. This work involves: Machining Brazing (torch and atmosphere furnaces) Welding Operation of furnaces Assembly work Test setup and testing using developed plans and experimental test programs and fabrication procedures. Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications. Minor electrical work
