Manufacturing Engineer
Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer Job Description Seeking an experienced NPI Engineer with a history of successful product industrialization execution as part of its progression into the next phase of the company growth strategy. Reporting into the NPI Manager and working closely with the Engineering, Supply Chain, and Quality Assurance functions, the NPI Engineer is responsible for ensuring the product vision is realized through excellence in translating Engineering designs into manufacturable products. The NPI Engineer will be focused on DFMA&T (design for manufacture, assembly, and test) principles to allow successful and efficient product introduction through the translation of engineering designs into manufacturable terminals for satellite communications. As the interface between the internal Engineering organization and the external supply chain/manufacturing base, they will assist in the transition of Design to Product according to project budget and schedule, whilst maintaining the metrics of Quality, Cost, Product Performance, and Schedule. Working as an integral part of the cross-functional teams, they will influence design decisions early in the lifecycle through identification of suitable materials, components, manufacturing processes, assembly processes, and product-qualification techniques that dovetail into the supply chain design. With a remit that covers prototyping, pilot production, and full production builds in a volume-production facility, they will be expected to identify and engage with a wide range of supply chain and manufacturing services from quick-turn, low volume test pieces at the local level to an industrialized level of maturity for high volume, sustainable high quality, and low-cost units from regional sources. This includes the development of appropriate internal and external procedures and processes that self-manage the NPI activities in a formal framework of verifiable and accountable reporting. • Drive industrialization of key components and assemblies that meet reliability, repeatability, and traceability requirements • Develop, design, and document best practice processes and procedures for manufacturing and test of key components and assemblies that allow for translation of low to high volume manufacturing. • Assisting with mechanical and electrical DFMA&T and in the context of the intended supply chain design, work in concert with the Engineering design team to ensure products are designed to suit manufacturing processes. • Champion new technologies, design methods, and industrial processes/techniques to promote ongoing improvements that lead to product cost reductions and/or performance improvements. • Deliver metrics/KPI’s utilizing six sigma methodologies to analyze production performance and improvement • Deliver products that meet quality, cost, and performance metrics whilst achieving project budget and schedule milestones. • Develop and maintain a high standard of NPI documentation to ensure full traceability of the production processes and procedures across the company. Drive a process of continuous improvements in accordance with ISO9001 certified quality management system. • Manage the development and ongoing support of in-house custom test equipment and associated software (as expected to be deployed in the production line). • Provide the associated technical support to represent our requirements to 3rd party production departments through the preparation of control documents and work instructions. • Carry out process validation for new/existing manufacturing processes to meet product requirements, including environmental qualification. Use of FMEA and risk management techniques as required. • Perform SPC studies to understand the process trend and yield. Develop any associated mitigation plans. • Training staff for new processes and providing instructions and manuals. • Assist in the design of the manufacturing layout and determining personnel requirements. • Preparing material and equipment lists, purchase orders, cost analysis, and estimated production costs. • Other tasks, as assigned from time to time.
