Job summary:
We are looking for a strong leader with the technical background to support Manufacturing Engineering and Test / Performance Engineering related efforts for Electric Power Division. Additionally, this role will serve as the Project Management leader within the Operations team. This position will be responsible for managing manufacturing processes, tooling, gaging and equipment to economically produce product components and assemblies, and provide concurrent process functions from design concept through implementation. You will engage with Engineering to implement New Product Introduction (NPI), support with necessary capital assets, and maintenance of all existing processes.
You will be supported through two-way collaboration as we might need to lean on you as part of our larger leadership team. We will empower you and provide you the autonomy to exercise your unique leadership style to motivate your team of production and management personnel to ensure their engagement and the success of the product line. We are counting on you to develop and establish processes and a governance program within our manufacturing area to ensure we are meeting and exceeding our key performance indicators in terms of people, quality, velocity, and cost.
**What you will do:**
• Lead manufacturing engineering functions to develop world class processes as well as governance and control mechanisms. Spearhead capital investment opportunities to deliver improved OEE results. Maintain EPP and capacity requirements to support evolving demand and customer needs.
• Coordinate the effective operation of assigned areas of manufacturing to meet established schedules and production requirements while maintaining cost.
• Leverage Lean principles to maximize process footprint and layout to achieve world class efficiencies within all assembly operations.
• Oversee Manufacturing Engineering and Project functions for current manufacturing processes, new process justification and implementation, machines, equipment, tooling, work standards, gage planning and technical troubleshooting to provide the most efficient and economical manufacturing and assembly of quality products.
• Manage and communicate facility and production readiness within the new product introduction (NPI) process, new capital introduction (NCI), and new source introduction (NSI).
• Develops and maintains budgetary controls for the section, establishes and reviews objectives, and provides personnel requirements and future forecasts. Maintains awareness of new technology and evaluates its value to the profit center. Assists staff in developing and implementing new systems and keeps other areas informed of progress. Effectively utilizes Class A, 6 Sigma and Lean Manufacturing methodologies.

• Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
o Level Basic Understanding:
Identifies project management tools and requirements within own function.
Describes the key objectives, phases and deliverables of a current project.
Explains the concepts of phase, activity, task, and deliverable.
Gives examples of critical paths in projects.
• Capacity Planning & Management - MFG: Knowledge of tools, approaches and practices for determining production demand and ability to manage resources needed to provide satisfactory levels of service.
o Level Working Knowledge:
Documents major considerations of product promotions and analyzes their effect on production and required capacity.
Provides management reports on actual and projected capacity requirements.
Uses available tools to interpret forecasts and work out required capacity.
Participates in developing short-term capacity requirements for a specific product or plant.
Collects and collates key elements of demand chain used in developing capacity requirements.
• Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes.
o Level Working Knowledge:
Discusses considerations for work cell design and effectiveness monitoring.
Finds solution for key technical and people problems associated with transformation to lean.
Explains issues and considerations of implementing lean in own function or area.
Selects and utilizes tools, techniques and measurements associated with a lean assessment.
Explains benchmarks and measures of effectiveness of lean.
• Bachelor’s degree (preferably in a manufacturing engineering/operations-related discipline) and applicable experience in manufacturing, supply chain, or operations OR additional applicable experience in manufacturing, supply chain, or operations in lieu of degree
• Previous supervisory leadership experience within manufacturing operations
• Experience with lean manufacturing principles
• Ability to communicate and adapt your communication style to a variable audience
Top candidates will have:
• Experience in project management, capital execution, and capital utilization
• Performance test engineering experience supporting standard operations and technical UL requirements.
• Previous experience supporting customer witness testing and support
• 6 Sigma/Lean manufacturing experience or certification
• NPI process experience
• Strong leadership and managerial skills
• Demonstrated ability to establish processes and governance where standard work did not exist

**Summary Pay Range:**
$110,520.00 - $165,840.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
