The Manufacturing Engineer II will be responsible for leading process improvements in the manufacturing cells associated with the Assembly and Machine Shop production lines. This person will maintain safe and reliable manufacturing processes to ensure maximized product yield and throughput. They will be responsible for the process flow and documentation of standard work as well as the design & validation of new tools, fixtures and machines. The Manufacturing Engineer will have full ownership for specific manufacturing process(es). In addition, they will lead and supervise lean initiatives governed by the Regal Rexnord Business System (RBS).
This position is located in West Chester, PA.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Acts as PRIMARY OWNER for technical questions and challenges from assembly/ machine operators.
Answers process related questions promptly
Reacts quickly to initial quality, tooling, and equipment issues to keep production running
Lead DAILY MANAGEMENT to drive Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, Productivity, Cost and Growth performance in area of responsibility
Collects and compiles data for cell level SQDIPCG (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, Productivity, Cost, Growth)
Establishes regular communication of data to associates and affected persons
Create action plan and executes to drives actions to successfully meet goals
Performs ROOT CAUSE & COUNTERMEASURE analysis (RCCM’s) of internal and external quality issues
Collects and receives first signals of potential defective product in area of ownership, troubleshoots, and provides feedback to operators on initial disposition
Performs MRB (Material Review Board) daily. Identify plan for disposition/rework/salvage of defective parts originating in area of ownership
Submits & executes Deviation and Engineering Change Order requests as needed
Works closely with Quality Team on external customer returns (RMA’s) including analysis related to defects originating in area of ownership, both determination of root cause and implementation of countermeasures through 8D methodology and other problem-solving tools.
Performs basic TROUBLESHOOTING / REPAIRS of EQUIPMENT in area of ownership
Perform initial mechanical and electrical troubleshooting to determine root cause of equipment failures
Assists Maintenance with minor repairs and troubleshooting of equipment. Escalate to Maintenance staff as required
Ensure Equipment Preventative Maintenance is performed in a timely manner
Ensure calibration/validation are completed
Conducts PROCESS IMPROVEMENT activities
Conduct Installation, Operation and Process qualification on new and existing equipment/ tooling/ processes.
Identify new/ upgrade needs for equipment and write Capital Acquisition Requests
Ensure repeatability and reproducibility of processes, testing, measurement and analytical equipment
Specifies manufacturing methods and part routings
Performs time studies or observe/capture standard work
Participate and conduct standard work (SW), Variation Reduction Kaizen (VRK), as well as other Kaizen activities to improve stability of processes
Specifies and orders tooling and equipment, consumables as needed.
Designs and documents fixturing and tools using SolidWorks software and applying GD&T, Tolerance stack up analysis.
Maintains DOCUMENTATION related to part routings, work instructions and inspection
Creates/updates Process Documentation for areas of ownership – Routers, OMS, MP, QSB
Compiles and writes training material and conduct training/coaching sessions on quality control and manufacturing activities
Supports NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT as needed
Critical Competencies
High sense of urgency and results driven
A strong understanding of quality systems and other process improvement tools preferred
Familiarity with various manufacturing equipment and processes (laser welding, transfer molding) preferred
Working knowledge of inspection and measurement tools (CMM, Caliper, Micrometer, Gages)
Familiarity with documentation and process control creation
Proficient in time and project management
Ability to work in a cross functional environment
Strong written, verbal and computer skills
Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/ industrial engineering or related field, or equivalent experience required
3-5 years of Manufacturing Engineering experience required
Previous experience with Lean Manufacturing / Problem Solving tools is preferred
Previous Experience with QS and ISO requirements is preferred
