The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced, high caliber Engineer II, Manufacturing to work out of our Irvine, CA location supporting our Electro-physiology (EP) business. In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.

What You'll Work On:

Front line engineer supporting multiple product lines and operations teamManage projects which include new production equipment, process improvements and cost reductions while supporting new product introductions.  Provide guidance to other engineers and technicians. Additional responsibilities include:Supporting overall production line output, including and not limited to preventing/addressing line down concerns, production scrap with RCA and corrective actions, equipment related issues, material supply concerns, and other business interruptions.Coordinate the design, procurement, build and debug of tooling, machinery and test equipment.Improve product quality, labor efficiency, and throughput through the use of Lean manufacturing conceptsConduct Process FMEAs and Process ValidationsIndividual should:Be innovative, resourceful, and work with minimal directionHave excellent organization, problem solving, communication, and team leadership skillsWork effectively with cross-functional teamsDesign and develop manufacturing processes, tooling, and fixtures in order to meet daily production schedules while enhancing productivity and product qualityEvaluation of production equipmentProduction support and process validationInterface with vendors for incoming components, equipment and toolsTroubleshoot manufacturing process and equipmentUtilize tools like Gage R&R, Cp, Cpk, and SPC to improve processesUnderstand manufacturing concepts like Value Stream mapping, 5S and Visual Workplace to improve quality, labor efficiency, and throughput.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors of Science degree in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering or a related field or equivalent3+ years of relevant engineering experience. Prior manufacturing engineering experience is required.Experience in highly regulated field, preferably medical device manufacturing.Understanding and use of process monitoring and statistical analysis tools.Proficiency in medical device scrap dissections, preferably catheters.Experience supporting manufacturing equipment, including equipment specifications and IQs. Preferred knowledge of Equipment reliability, PM, Calibration.Strong analytical, problem solving, and project management skills.Demonstrated leadership capability in team settings.Ability to work within a team and independently in a fast-paced, changing environment.Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated experience with CAD systems, designing and implementing fixtures.Understanding of mechanical reasoning, physics, electronics, metal working and plasticsAbility to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environmentExperience working with document control, ERP, and equipment management systems.Understanding of Lean Six Sigma concepts.Experience working closely with Quality Engineers in determining rejects based on inspection criteria and test methods.Demonstrated use of DOE and Gauge R&R.Experience with Process Characterization, OQ, PQ, PPQ.

The base pay for this position is $65,900.00 – $131,900.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
