Engineering Tech 2 (IL) is an essential intermediate position within the Creation Technologies, tasked with handling moderately complex engineering technical design activities, advanced troubleshooting, and contributing to improvement projects. This role is a steppingstone for professionals looking to deepen their engineering technical expertise, offering a blend of hands-on experience and involvement in improvement initiatives. Responsibilities include advanced troubleshooting down to the root cause level and implementation of process improvement opportunities. This role supports technical activities under the guidance of the engineering team. This position demands a proactive approach, technical proficiency, and a commitment to continuous learning and teamwork.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but not limited to:
•Engages in the design, development and readiness of manufacturing equipment, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to safety standards.
•Handles intermediate engineering tasks and escalates issues as necessary, ensuring compliance with quality standards and that products meet customer required specifications and standards.
•Tackles complex problems independently, proposing feasible solutions within defined parameters and effectively communicate them to appropriate stakeholders, including operations.
•Demonstrates intermediate knowledge in electronics manufacturing, solving typical problems with innovative solutions.
•Contributes to the development & maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensures compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
•Collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, sharing insights and contributing to decision-making.
•Orders NRE items (tooling, machine applicators, fixtures, test supplies etc.) as per Creation procedures.
•Participates in the development and review of process documentation, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance with company defined and industry standards.
•Provides technical support and guidance to junior technicians, enhancing team skills and productivity.
•Facilitates training sessions for production trainers on new processes, technologies, and equipment, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and learning.
•Implements and optimizes production processes, ensuring operational efficiency and adherence to best practices.
•Conducts intermediate troubleshooting and problem-solving, providing expert-level technical support to the manufacturing team.
•Engages in equipment validation and verification, ensuring it meets all specifications and operational requirements.
•Executes intermediate MFG engineering tasks and activities under the direction of Manufacturing Engineering team.
•Manages Bill of Materials (BOM), document control, and validates routing; supports New Product Introduction (NPI) and Engineering Change Order (ECO) processes.
•Has working knowledge and ability to work with PLM and MES systems.
•Engages in detailed manufacturing process documentation, including work instructions, as received from customer, and prepped for release to production floor.
•Creates Assembly documents, PSWI's (Product Specific Work Instructions), Color Codes, etc. (use of Valor, ABAS, Oracle, TurboCAD, or other MES and CAD/CAM software).
•Generate, control, and distribute basic and intermediate level manufacturing process documentation including Process Plans and Procurement specifications.
•Creates, supports and maintains launch schedules for engineering projects, including coordinating tasks and resources within the engineering team.
•Perform DFx analysis and reporting with cross functional teams.
•Engages in engineering projects and initiatives, coordinating tasks and resources to meet project timelines and specifications.
•Coordinates with production and engineering teams to streamline manufacturing efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product performance.
•Engages in the New Product Introduction (NPI) process, procurement specifications and product First Article Inspection (FAI).
•Engages in intermediate-level problem-solving and process optimization, applying expert knowledge to enhance manufacturing outcomes.
•Engages in the development and implementation of manufacturing systems and layout plans to optimize workflow and production efficiency.
•Engages in the maintenance and improvement of test solutions, ensuring manufacturability and alignment with product specifications.
•Contributes to the troubleshooting and calibration of test equipment, enhancing the precision and reliability of test results.
•Coordinates with production teams to develop and refine testing procedures and protocols, ensuring comprehensive coverage and reliable test results.
•Read wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, and engineering instructions for assembling electronics units (wires, cables, harnesses, etc.), applying knowledge of electronic theory and components.
•Implements and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) to track and improve manufacturing performance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Required Experience
•College Diploma (2 Year), with relevant coursework in electronics and manufacturing processes or equivalent industry and/or military experience
•Minimum of 3+ years of relevant experience in a manufacturing or technical environment.
Skills Required
•Advanced understanding of electronics manufacturing and troubleshooting.
•Knowledgeable about IPC 610 Standard and/or J-STD-001.
•Proficiency in interpreting technical documents and specifications.
•Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
•Effective oral and written English communication and collaboration skills.
•Ability to work independently and in a team, managing multiple tasks efficiently.
•Leadership qualities and the ability to mentor junior technicians or interns.
•Effective understanding of Lean principles, six sigma and industrial ergonomics preferred.
•Familiar with PLM, MES, and CMMS systems.
•Proficient in using Computer systems and knowledge of CAD/CAM and programming preferred.
