Lab assistants provide help with instruction, direction of student learning and evaluation of student performance in the MATC lab under the direction of lab faculty, and the MATC Program Director. Essenatial Duties and Responsibilities Assist during Manufacturing Technology program course labs under the direction of the primary instructor, answering student questions regarding lab exercises, providing instruction on lab procedures, monitoring of safety during labs requiring use of hand tools or power equipment, administering of quizzes, grading of quizzes or assignments. Assist in development of lab and lecture exercises and curriculum under direction of primary instructor. Orient new students to the operation of manufacturing program software and other operational procedures utilized in the individualized instructional technology labs. Work with other COCC staff to track individual student and /or program outcomes. Perform technology and equipment maintenance as scheduled and/or directed by supervisor. If needed, call for service and support for laboratory equipment when directed by supervisor. Assist vendors with delivery of good and materials. Department Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies. Ability to monitor and assist students in the general daily operation of the MATC self-paced welding and machining labs. Possess the ability to initiate and perform work without supervision. Visual ability, corrected, to enable assistant to observe, direct, and supervise students in classroom situations. Familiarity with tools (both hand and power) used in welding and machining. Familiarity with and ability to operate or oversee the operation of audio-visual equipment, including overhead projectors, film, sound systems, video, television, interactive video and audio equipment including computer controlled mixed media presentations. Ability to operate of oversee the operation of computers and other written materials. Ability to communicate effectively in writing, using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services. Familiarity with and ability to remain in communication with the Manufacturing Technology Program Director and program staff and faculty on a regular basis. Ability to review, understand, and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature. Ability to work with the NIR Department Chair, Manufacturing Technology Program Director, faculty and other COCC staff at all levels. Must be able to work flexible hours including days, nights, and an occasional Saturday. Ergonomic Requirements Regular office hours are established between 8 am – 5 pm during the workweek. A flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, as well as travel to other locations, may be necessary due to the nature of the responsibilities.Incumbent must be able to complete the essential job functions listed above with or without reasonable accommodation. Work is typically performed standing. Must be able to safely lift 50 pounds. All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Minimum Requirements Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Experience: Completed coursework in COCC Manufacturing Program.
