Manufacturing Process Engineer II, Welding - Lunar

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Facilities, and Security. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As part of a unique, rapidly evolving team, you will develop, qualify, and support the production of gas tungsten arc (GTA) and variable polarity plasma arc (VPPA) welding processes for hardware in accordance with Blue Origin’s strict aerospace specifications. You will work hands-on with engineers and technicians in the manufacturing area to build our launch vehicles and space craft.  We seek people who are passionate about space and possess a strong desire to deliver results, and continuously learn and improve.

Responsibilities:

Develop, test, and qualify manual, mechanized and orbital GTA and VPPA weld schedules Writing and maintaining WPS, PQR, and WQR in accordance with AWS D17.1or other welding standardsReview NDT results from processed hardware and disposition nonconformance’sWork with an interdisciplinary team of manufacturing and tooling engineers, and skilled trades to develop tooling and welding procedures for flight hardwareOperate equipment, as neededSpecify, execute, and interpret mechanical and metallurgical weld tests Day-to-day support of GTA and VPPA work areas including but not limited to shop travelers, production schedules, welder qualification and material trace ability documentationManage projects and relationships with external test labs, material suppliers, equipment suppliers and other business organizationsGeneral shop skills including Foreign Object and Debris (FOD) prevention, material handling, safety, calibration requirements, ESD, and contamination control of precision clean systemsTravel as needed to support design interface meetings, equipment support, or off-site development activities.Maintain safe, clean, organized work area to ensure 5S work environment

Qualifications:

B.S. degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, weld engineering or relevant field    Fundamental understanding of metallurgy and/or arc physicsApproachable disposition, broad-minded, and open to rapid changingrequirementsCalming demeanor in high pressure situations with tenacity to resolve conflict for permanent problem resolutionAbility to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:

Master’s degree in materials or welding engineering 2 years of GTA, PA, or VPPA welding experience. Proficiency in processdevelopment and process improvementsUnderstanding of aerospace fusion welding processes in stainless steel, nickel, titanium, and aluminum materialsAbility to read and interpret engineering drawingsStrong written and personal computer skillsStrong interpersonal and organizational skillsExperience interpreting weld NDT resultsHands-on machining and welding experienceOperation, programming, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of AMET and/or Arc Machines, Inc. mechanized and orbital welding systems with wire feedProficient in CAD (Creo or NX is preferred)
