Job Description Summary

               

Primary responsibilities are to install, commission, maintain, and troubleshoot all aspects of the control systems throughout the facility. This includes but is not limited to both the hardware and software aspects of PLC systems, HMI/SCADA systems, and process control equipment. Acts as the Primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Process Controls. Strong communication skills are required for working across all departments of the facility to provide knowledge and support regarding control systems functionality. Collaboration is a key requirement for implementing new control solutions as needed to improve and optimize facility operations.

Supports the Production operations and advanced process control efforts in planning, implementing and developing long term success of advanced control organizational strategies. This position may require you to work any shift and/or all days of the week and on occasion be available to support plant needs during off hours via phone call in accordance with operational and plant needs.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

Identify process optimization opportunities in all areas of Richland campus and facilitate their successful implementation from the standpoint of reduced product variation and costs.Deals with application and software issues related to process control and supports end users in application development.  Responsible for conceptualizing, building and leading in the development of breakthrough approaches which result in process improvements.  Responsible for the management of control equipment specifications, sensors, vendors and process control software development.Establishes and implements area process optimization goals and monitors its performance.Apply control theory to design, test, troubleshoot, and oversee implementation of new processes and equipment.Identify and develop new control schemes for retrofits and existing systems.  Troubleshoot hardware, software, and instrument problems and work with Instrument Technicians, and Electricians on advanced control systems.  Create and implement new strategies to improve process efficiency, as well as supporting start-up activities.  Responsible for creating and/or maintaining automation processes.  Interface with all levels of Engineering and Production staff to provide design, estimating, engineering and implementation of electrical and process control systems.  Coordinate and facilitate user training for automated systems.

Education/ Certifications:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.2-Year Technical School Preferred.Control/Network Training or related Experience.

Skills and Experience:

Evidence of industrial automation and controls engineering/support experience Food manufacturing plant experience preferred        PLC and HMI programming/development skills Technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Experience with Rockwell Automation hardware and software systems, including, but not limited to: ControlLogix PLC Hardware, CompactLogix PLC Hardware, PlantPAx Distributed Control System, RSLogix5000, FactoryTalk ViewSE, ThinManager. FactoryTalk ViewME FactoryTalk Network Manager, FactoryTalk AssetCentre, FactoryTalk Historian Must be able to comprehend and troubleshoot developed software.  Must be self-motivated, customer-focused, and results-oriented.  Must be able to demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills.  Must have strong organizational skills, ability to work with multiple teams, demonstrated leadership skills and the proven ability to lead effective teams. Problem solving skills and the ability to positively implement change are required.  Strong PID skills and a basic working knowledge of heating and refrigeration systems. Ability to read and understand technical drawings Electrical and P&ID’s. Strong computer skills required including AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, technical and procedure manuals, work orders, and other instructional materials.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.Ability to speak and communicate with other employees of the organization.  Must read, write and communicate in English.Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, schematic, or diagram form. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Proficient in math to the level of algebraic equations.

Must have a complete knowledge as well as demonstrate plant safety rules including but not limited to the lockout-tagout procedure, confined space entry, chemical hazards, and the hearing conservation program.  Must be able to lead workgroups to successful safe outcomes while performing tasks.  Expected to identify risk to themselves and others and modify task to mitigate these risks to insure a safe outcome.  Is expected to ensure, to themselves and others, proper use of PPE as it relates to maintenance tasks and operating specialized maintenance tools and equipment. Must have good personal hygiene and be able to practice safe work habits 

Physical Environment/Demands:

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently.Exposed to a noisy environment that varies from hot to cold in temperatureExposure to manufacturing environments for up to 8 hours per workday to include: loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, slippery conditions, dirt, fumes, smoke, smells and allergies Ability to do repetitious arm, wrist and hand movements required for job actions and procedures.Must be able to work with hands and arms overhead, and to work in or under the equipment.Requires manual dexterity, overall coordination and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places to perform job duties.Ability to operate work related equipmentSpecific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.Exposed to temperatures ranging from -20 degrees below zero to 35 degrees Fahrenheit in Freezer Operation and 37 degrees to 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Plant OperationMay have to sample food while evaluating Lamb Weston productsClimbing to various heights via stairs or ladders on a regular basisEmployee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position satisfactorily.
