Job Summary:

The Boat Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for assisting with all marina services offered, quality control, maintains a clean and safe dock area, Maintains bathrooms and boat launching equipment, and secures guests’ boats.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Maintain Marina/Boat maintenance to include:Motors:hange engine oil and oil filters (every 100 hours, monthly)Change external fuel filters (100hrs)Change internal fuel filters (300hrs)Change spark plugs (300hrs)Change lower unit oil (200hrs)Inspect propellers, lower units, and hubs (100hrs) and repair/replace as neededInspect powerhead for corrosion. Remove and coat with inhibitorBuff and wax engine cowlingsFill grease pointsKnowledge of engine cooling systems and ability to replace impellers or water pump assembliesFlush motors at the end of each day.Ability to troubleshoot and repair/service tilt and trim systemsSteering:Top off steering fluidInspect system for leaks, tighten loose fittingsKnowledge of cable, hydraulic, and Teleflex steering systemsElectrical:Examine battery connections and clean corrosionTest batteries and engine statorsBe able to troubleshoot and repair navigation, VHF, water pressure, sound, and light systemsKnowledge of marine water heater and air conditioning systemsBoats: Inspect and repair gel coat chips and scratchesPump out boatsInspect and touch up deck paintRepair rub railsRemove surface rust from cleats, fasteners, etc. and protect.Apply sun protectant to canvas tops and side curtainsInspect and repair/replace Coast Guard Safety equipment (fire extinguishers, life jackets, VHF radio, anchors/tackle, EPIRB, flares, etc.)Pump out waste tanks and fill water tanks with fresh water. Know how to properly sanitize each tank.Knowledge of marine toilets and how to repairKnowledge of marine propane gas systemsKnowledge of boat haul-outs and gear to inspect during this timeKnowledge of appropriate boat bottom paints and how to properly prepare and applyDock:Be familiar with dock pump out systems and lift stations and be able to repair.Be familiar with dockside fueling systems and tank monitors and know basic troubleshootingKnow how to properly secure boats to the dock and ensure that dock and boat hardware remains adequate for this.Knowledge of proper boat fueling and fuel spill laws/proceduresProvide excellent customer service to guests, while directing customer issues to supervisor or unit manager.Responsible for maintaining grounds keeping equipment and company vehicles.Other Duties as assigned.

SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE

Partial High School education; High School Diploma/G.E.D. equivalent preferred.Strong customer service abilities; actively looks for ways to assist customers and coworkers.Ability to recognize when a problem has occurred and communicate it to management.Ability to swim.CPR/First Aid Certification.Candidate should have their own tools necessary to carry out these tasksCandidate should have adequate computer skills to create spreadsheets, access email, and use engine diagnostic software. Will be responsible for creating and maintaining a boat maintenance schedule and checklists for all boats. Good organization.Candidate must be willing to travel to other units if need be.Candidates must be personable and willing to work with the US Coast Guard during biannual haul-out inspection. Must comply with all Coast Guard regulations and inspector recommendations.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly frequent movements from place to place within the unit. Bend, lift, carry, reach/extend arms and hands above shoulder height frequently, or otherwise move in a constantly changing environment.Lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 25 lbs. regularly, 30-35 lbs. frequently, and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.Ability to stand for the entire work day.Climbing steps regularly.Working in wet and slippery conditions. Frequently working in an outdoor, hot, and damp environment.Frequently immerses hands in water.Withstanding temperature extremes in outdoor environments and inclement weather.Reading and writing work-related documents in English.Speech recognition and clarity, including the ability to understand the speech of customers and co-workers and the ability to speak clearly so that you can be understood by customers and co-workers in English.Physical presence at the job site is essential to perform job duties.
