Polaris is seeking an experienced electrical engineer to join the marine innovation team as Staff Engineer - Electrical. This role will serve as the owner and architect of electrical/electronic systems and corresponding components, controls, and features. Individual will be responsible for developing electrical architecture, designing systems, and overall electrical technology integration.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as electrical systems architect, designer, systems and specifications engineer, as well as executor.
Works with marine platform architect to identify requirements, features, and characteristics attributable to the electrical architecture and facilitates communication to understand possible options and prioritize efforts.
Work directly with internal and external partners on the development, design, integration and validation of required components & controllers, utilizing existing components and controllers where applicable
Establishes definition of platform level and subsystem level architectures and requirements pertaining to electrical and electronic components
Assures all electrical sub-systems work together and conducts system level tradeoffs (quality, function, weight, cost, assembly feasibility, etc.) to meet Voice of the Customer
Performs detailed studies and design of vehicle electrical systems with emphasis on safety, quality, reliability, and cost
Participate in component placement and design reviews for engine/chassis systems and provides input to ensure designs meet electrical system requirements
Interacts with purchasing, testing, manufacturing, and external suppliers as needed for the successful completion of projects
Provide tooling, NRE, & BOM cost estimates to the Project team for electrical components suiting architecture
Troubleshoot electrical/electronic systems when issues arise
Key contributions to technology planning
Lead Design FMEA efforts for electrical systems
Wire harness design
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
B.S. in Electrical/Mechanical/Computer/Systems Engineering or closely related curriculum required with a minimum of 6 + years of experience. Marine electrical experience preferred.
Understanding and experience with circuit design, system-level design, component specifications, and requirements management
Highly developed computer skills using EE design/analysis and Microsoft Office software
Electrical system design of vehicle or machine control systems, including systems engineering discipline.
Hands-on experience using electrical test and assembly equipment
Engineering problem solving training, six sigma a plus.
Analog and digital circuit analysis and design with electronic schematic capture and circuit simulation tools experience
Experience with mechanical systems and engines (doesn’t have to be included in formal education)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Wire harness design experience
Control Area Network (CAN) experience
Creative, innovative, decisive, and prone to action. Quality and customer-focused
Ability to work with domestic and international technology partners
Familiarity with worldwide requirements, regulations, and compliance standards
WORKING CONDITIONS
Some travel required 25-50% for external partner interface, field testing trips, industry shows, etc.
