Hatch, a full-service consultancy, is currently seeking a highly motivated Structural Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join the Ports & Terminals team in Vancouver, British Columbia.

 

As a Structural Engineer-in-Training (EIT), you will be involved on a range of small to large-scale projects including public, high-profile projects.  The role will be challenging, demanding, varied and offer fantastic opportunities for skill set and career development. 

 

As the successful candidate, you will:

Support the analysis and design of marine structures such as offshore piled docks, caisson quay-walls and sheet-pile retaining walls. Seismic assessment of existing and new marine structures, design upgrades to improve seismic capacity and extend life of existing marine facilities. Interface with our coastal specialists to account for wave loads on structures, impact of climate change or develop mooring and berthing designs. Support technicians in developing design drawings from engineering sketches (determine appropriate scales, layout and need for specific details); Working with other designers, project engineers and project managers in the execution and delivery of project requirements including drawings, technical specifications, technical reports, cost estimates, schedules, etc.; Direct field involvement in provision of construction administration services including monitoring compliance of constructed works relative to design requirements; responding to Requests for Information; documentation of construction activities; processing of progress payments; quality assurance; etc. Interface with clients and other project technical discipline leads, as required; Comply with company quality control policies and procedures; Provide leadership and direction to less experienced field, design, and administration support staff; Provide support to other technical disciplines and offices, as required; Provide support to business development including preparation of proposals; Perform any other related duties that may contribute to the successful completion of projects.

 

 

You bring to the role:

Bachelor’s Degree in a Civil Engineering discipline from an accredited University. Master’s Degree preferred in the fields of structural, seismic, ports and marine engineering; Registered EIT in British Columbia, or eligible for professional registration; 1 - 2 years of proven consulting engineering experience with significant experience on bridge structures projects; Strong communication, coordination and organizational skills; Ability to meet demanding schedules and adaptability to changing priorities; Demonstrated ability to effectively support and contribute to a positive team environment.
