About the role
The Marine Transfer Station Manager is a key position within the company and is responsible for day to day operations that are consistent with the company's vision and values. This position is responsible for two MTS’s, Flushing Queens and Manhattan. Reporting to the Regional Operations Leader, this role is a key position that oversees all aspects of Safety, Environmental, Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Procurement, Projects, Continuous Improvement and Financial Performance of the MTS’s. This position will provide leadership, develop programs and policies for improvement and be responsible for the execution of health & safety, environmental performance, operations and maintenance of the facilities and employees through all phases of operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES:
The MTS Manager will provide exceptional leadership, guide, empower and collaborate with operating teams to ensure operations are in compliance with all environmental, safety and health, corporate initiatives, and overall operation and maintenance strategies while optimizing cost and delivering results. They will aggressively drive a high-performance culture by ensuring the right talent, in the right roles, delivering high quality results. Additionally, identify actions for development and retention of our employees and continue strengthening operations excellence at the sites. The scope covers “end to end” site operations and maintenance as it relates to the handling and transport of NYC Department of Sanitation residential waste.
Key Responsibilities include:
Safety, Health and Environmental Excellence – Provide visible personal safety and environmental leadership. Have an active role in the implementation of SHE programs, policies and procedures. Measure performance through audit and tracking KPI’s. Provide leadership into the Root Cause Analysis of any incidents, ensure corrective actions are identified, addressed and corrected. Ensure 100% compliance to all safety and environmental regulatory and compliance related issues.Serve as lead liaison and interact with NYC DOS management when required. Schedule, lead and represent the company and site operations during monthly meetings with the client.Accountable for effective Management of Change (MOC).Interact with company Logistics personnel and Sub-Contractors to ensure equipment availability to the client at all times.Lead crisis management and provide immediate leadership to assist with the control of thecrisis and its recovery to normal operations once a crisis is contained.Day to Day Operations Leadership - Ensure consistent and integrated approach to the
operation and maintenance of the facility through effective planning, excellent
communication and sharing of information and processes, development of contingency
plans and follow through on effective execution of plans.Oversee facility production and equipment availability, collaborating with staff to identify
operating deficiencies and coordinate corporate, regional, and field support to develop and
implement effective operating plans.Interact with union leadership representing employees. Ensure accuracy and consistency of reporting using key performance indicators (e.g.,
production, operating statistics, labor costs and other operating expenses) and compliance
with policies and procedures. Ensure prompt attention to and resolution of issues when
required.Own and lead day to day maintenance activities and work with the Maintenance leaders to
drive plant maintenance improvements.Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements and ethical standards related to
Operations and Maintenance.Continuous Improvement and Cost Management - Oversee and coordinate site support to
ensure successful integration, promoting effective budget management and organic growth
initiatives.Oversee and coordinate site support to ensure effective operating plans. Plans should
include supporting business processes, operating facility budgets, other financial processes and human resources.Serve as a Lean champion for continuous improvement. Be a change leader for the entire
site.Conduct capital expenditure planning, global engineering standards, budgeting, forecasting, facility master planning.Identify recurring issues and define overall requirements for obtaining necessary Site data,
recommend and implement action plans.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS:
This individual must have 10+ years of progressive experience in operations management with at least 7 years supervisory experience, as well as experience leading operations and maintenance execution. This person will have a track record of operations and maintenance execution, utilizing people effectively and managing tightly against performance commitments and be strongly committed to developing a high-performance culture. Specifically, the successful candidate will have:
Demonstrated dedication to process safety, worker safety and environmental stewardship.A track record of ensuring all operations projects are subject to rigorous planning and oversight to ensure on-time and on-budget completion that meets or exceeds quality and safety standards.Ability to challenge status quo, identify key areas for improvement and implement actions to address.Drive cultural change, accountability, and continuous improvement mindset throughout the organization.Strong customer internal orientation with comfort in a matrixed organization.A strong track record in managing large and remote operating teams including ability to energize and develop all levels of the organization.Experience in building (re-building) process/systems focused structure.Successful experience interacting with Federal, State and local regulators, legislators, permitting agencies, and other community organizations.Previous management experience in a specialty chemical, utility, heavy industry, intensive asset environment with significant processing equipment and material handling, or equivalent.Ability to travel.EDUCATION:
An undergraduate degree in engineering or another technical degree; an advanced degree is considered an advantage. Lean certification is highly desirable.10 + years in Operations Management.5+ years in maintenance and Capex execution.5+ years in plant or field operations/maintenance experience.Experience with Lean management principles or operating in lean manufacturing environments.The expected salary range for this position is 128,133.00 - 169,843.50 USD Annual. This position is eligible for a discretionary annual incentive plan, subject to meeting the requirements of the plan and dependent on company and individual performance. This is a good-faith estimate of what we expect to pay for this position. The final salary figure will take into account a variety of factors including experience, ability and location.
