Maritime Engineer
We currently have a requirement for a Maritime Engineer to join our Irish Maritime team. Based in our Dublin, Cork, Galway or Limerick office the ideal candidate will be looking to further their career and gain invaluable experience within an established multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy. The Dublin based maritime engineering team serves all our European offices and works together with our worldwide maritime engineering centres in UK, SE Asia, Australia, and Americas.
This is a permanent role and offers the successful candidate long-term and international opportunities. The successful candidate will be involved in a diverse and challenging range of maritime projects. Our team is currently working on several port and harbour projects, offshore renewable energy projects, coastal protection projects and dredging projects worldwide.
Experience/Qualifications:
Engineering degree qualified in civil engineering with specialisation in maritime or a related discipline;
At least 4 years post – qualification maritime engineering experience in some the following areas: ports, harbours and marinas, dredging and reclamation works, metocean studies, coastal protection works, offshore renewable energy developments, flood protection works, waterfront developments; Proven team player with a proactive approach to work; Experience in delegating tasks to more junior team members; Ability to meet strict deadlines; Experience in coastal risk mapping, coastal modelling tools (waves, currents, sediment transport, erosion, morphology, flooding, etc.) would be an advantage. Good programming skills and GIS would be an advantage Two or more years experience in Irish/UK market and/or knowledge of one or more European languages would be an advantageResponsibilities:
Design of maritime and coastal structures and developments, flood protection and related works from concept to construction; Assess natural hazards such as coastal erosion and coastal flooding for present and future conditions, taking into account theeffects of climate change; Preparation of technical reports; Preparation of submissions in response to tenders; Monitoring and coaching junior engineers.About You
You will be a technical leader with extensive experience in delivering maritime projects. An individual with curiosity, personal drive, and technical know-how. You will have strong team leadership and organisational skills, familiar with co-ordinating multi-disciplinary teams, and working collaboratively.
Ultimately, you will be as inspired as we are by the problems we are solving and excited to help clients and lead teams delivering the solutions.
We are looking for the following qualifications, attributes and skills.
A relevant degree and Chartered Engineer Status; A recognised Subject Matter Expert with experience in maritime engineering experience in one or more of the following areas: ports, harbours and marinas, dredging and reclamation works, metocean studies, coastal protection works, offshore renewable energy developments, flood protection works, waterfront developments.in the field of flood, coastal or maritime engineering; A desire and ability to build and maintain strong, long term relationships within Arup and with our Clients; A desire and ability to proactively plan and commercially manage projects; A flexible thinker with a focus on continual improvement A team player with a positive mindset. A desire and ability to share knowledge and proactively mentor and manage teams & individuals Highly effective and open communication skills An honest and trustworthy character with a strong sense of appropriate ethical practice.
