Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
We are looking for an enthusiastic talent to join our ambitious global team to drive innovation within Corning’s Optical Fiber and Cable business. The successful candidate will have an exciting opportunity to work in a rapidly evolving OFC business with close alignment across different functions, including research, product development, product line management, and marketing. The candidate will be a strong liaison with the sales teams globally, acting as MTD’s main point of contact for broadload (SMF/Bend) fibers.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with Product Line Managers and Marketing Communications to help define broadload fiber product strategy, positioning, and promotion.
Collaborate with cable MTD, PLM and Technology teams to ensure an adequate performance of broadload fibers in a wide range of cables (incl. future cable designs).
Perform value propositions and RWW (Real? Win? Worth?) analyses to drive the discovery of new broadload fibers or modifications / obsolescence of the existing fibers.
Support market sizing analysis to inform the business on how market changes may impact broadload fiber volume projections.
Lead OFC product roadmapping for broadload optical fibers.
Lead Applications Roadmap Team (ART) event roadmapping for Converged Access Networks.
Generate White Papers to inform the OFC business of new market or technology trends that may affect product mix, market adoption, or profitability of broadload fibers.
Customer engagement (e.g. be able to explain the value of Corning’s broadload fibers).
Be a pro-active and effective bridge between the OFC business and Research / Technology.
Travel Requirements: up to 20% domestic & international travel.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or Applied Physics with at least 5 years of relevant industry work experience.
Knowledge of optical fibers and applications.
Good presentation and communication skills.
Highly numerate and proficient with Excel.
Strong verbal and written English.
A pro-active self-starter with “can-do” attitude. Ability to meet objectives with high degree of independence.
Ability to rapidly develop expertise in new technical areas.
Willingness to travel to various Corning sites across the US (Wilmington, Corning, Charlotte, Hickory, Concord).
Desired Qualifications
Good understanding of Corning’s Optical Fiber and Cable business.
Project or program management skills (planning, mobilizing people, driving action, managing progress, measuring performance).
Experience in value proposition and business case development.
Knowledge of short- and long-reach optical fiber network architectures.
A “Natural Networker” – ability to build and leverage relationships with knowledge experts and leaders across technology, commercial and manufacturing.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and change as required.
Advanced degree (PhD or MBA) is a bonus.

The range for this position is $98,391.00 - $135,288.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
