The Marketing Accountant position will act as a liaison between Marketing and Revenue Accounting to ensure SOX compliance and Accounting’s understanding of all Marketing Contracts. This position will be responsible for review of new and existing oil and gas purchase, sales, transportation, gathering and processing contracts to determine proper recording per accounting policies, procedures and regulations. Other duties include review of contracts and confirming proper distribution of oil and gas royalty payments to working interest owners and royalty interest owners, including state and federal agencies, and reporting to state agencies.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Review new and existing contracts on a continuous basis, document accounting and revenue treatment and effectively communicate any updates or changesEnsure compliance with applicable policies and review contracts to ensure that revenue is recorded in compliance with US GAAPEnsure revenue distribution to interest owners are compliant based on contract termsWork closely with Revenue, Tax, Marketing, Production, and Operational DepartmentsAssist with completion of month-end accruals and financial reportingProvide input to strategic decisions that affect oil and gas purchase, sales, transportation, gathering and processing contractsEffectively communicate decisions surrounding revenue and accounting treatment with other departmentsLiaison between marketing and multiple revenue teamsOther responsibilities and reporting as assigned by managementPerform various ad hoc projects as assignedWork with the VP of Marketing on special projectsRequired Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (BBA or BS) in accounting At least five (5+) years of oil and gas accounting experienceAt least five (5+) years of demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office, (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)Strong working knowledge of oil and gas accounting and general accounting principlesPreferred Qualifications:
At least five (5+) years of relevant contract and revenue experience with an Oil and Gas companyExperience with oil and gas marketing contract reviewSAP or similar accounting software experienceRegulatory Royalty and Production Tax knowledge and/or experienceStrong analytical, problem solving and collaborative skillsAbility to suggest and implement process improvements to increase effectiveness while ensuring SOX complianceStrong written and verbal communication skills to effectively work with all levels of an organizationProcess oriented with a strong attention to detailWork Authorization:
