Marketing Assistant - (Hybrid)

Viking Penguin is seeking a Marketing Assistant to join our team responsible for marketing Viking, Pamela Dorman Books, Penguin Life, The Open Field, Penguin Books and Penguin Classics, imprints which publish a range of fiction and nonfiction from bestselling and award-winning authors. The assistant will provide support across the marketing department, including: completing administrative tasks and data entry, assisting with consumer and account marketing activities, mailings, social media content creation and platform management.  

 

The assistant will report to the Marketing Director and Associate Marketing Director, and work regularly with other members of the team. The assistant will have a unique opportunity to be exposed to many areas of book publishing, liaising frequently with colleagues in editorial, publicity, managing editorial, design, ad buying, cover art, sales, and more. This is an ideal and exciting entry-level position for dedicated book readers, and anyone pursuing a career in book publishing.

This role is based in New York City and will require a minimum of two days in the office per week.

 

Responsibilities

Provide general administrative support to the Associate Publisher, Marketing Director and Associate Marketing Director, including meeting preparation and notetaking, processing expense reports and invoices, etc. Manage digital galley platforms for all imprints, facilitate sales and account requests, track deadlines and assist with the creation and distribution of sell-in materials. Assist the Marketing Director and Associate Marketing Director with title marketing activities, including influencer outreach and campaigns, consumer-facing promotions, and internal record keeping. With direction from the social media manager, amplify and schedule social media content, assist with seasonal campaigns, and contribute to community management across platforms.

 

Requirements

This position requires a minimum of two days per week in the office. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance from our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).  Strong familiarity with online book communities (BookTok, Bookstagram, BookTube). Experience using social media and an interest in the ever-changing social media landscape. Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.

 

The salary for this position is $51,000.  All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
