The Department of Public Health's Tewksbury Hospital has an opening for a Mason to join its Facilities Maintenance Department. The Mason performs all necessary activities to properly lay brick, stone and cement blocks, plaster walls and ceilings, prepare surfaces for plaster or cement work, repairs masonry on walls, ceilings and floors. The Mason installs, repairs and replaces vinyl, stone, ceramic and other types of flooring.
Please note this position works 40 hours/week on the 1st shift with Saturday and Sunday off.
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
Performs all necessary activities to properly lay brick, stone and cement blocks. Prepares surfaces for plaster or cement work. Mixes mortar and concrete. Installs, repairs and replaces vinyl, stone, ceramic and other types of flooring. Erects scaffolding, staging and ladders as needed. Installs access panels in masonry surfaces. Cuts openings into wall, ceilings and floors constructed of masonry materials. Protects adjacent areas from fumes, dust and vapors by installing and maintaining barriers, ventilationand othercontrol measures. Other duties as required.Required Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions/directions.Talent for establishing and maintaining harmonious working relationships and deal tactfully with others.Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time and lift/carry heavy objects.Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in a hospital and/or campus setting working with multiple disciplines and vendors.About Tewksbury Hospital:

Applicants must have at least two years of full-time, or equivalent part- time, experience as a stonemason, marble setter or bricklayer, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitution below.
Substitution:
I. A diploma or certificate from a recognized trade or vocational school, at high school level or higher with a major in masonry may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
Special Requirements:
Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
