Carnegie Mellon University's Facilities Management (FMS) department is searching for a Mason to join our team! In this role, you will perform work including layout and installation of brick, concrete masonry units and stone masonry for structural or decorative installation. You will also construct form work and mix/place/finish concrete and apply various types of sealants, bonding agents and special patching materials.

Core responsibilities will include:Ability to lay out patterns and build forms for curbs, walkways, steps, memorial plaques and concrete repairs.Cut and trim materials using power tools or hand tools to fit around windows and doors.Ability to tear down old masonry structures and replace them with new ones.Ability to safely cut openings and support walls to prepare for new building materials, such as door frames and windows into an existing structure.Repoint and restore damaged masonry on walls and chimneys. Texturize, polish and seal all bricks and natural stone to ensure surfaces are waterproof and damp-proof.Ability to clean masonry and remove graffiti from concrete, brick and other natural stone surfaces using a variety of techniques.Reading blueprints and technical drawings to calculate materials and create detailed plans.Requisition job parts and suppliesOther duties as assignedFlexibility, excellence, and passion are vital qualities within the department of Facilities Management. You Must Demonstrate:Strong communication skills and ability to perform clearly defined tasks with minimal direction.Ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions as to when additional help is needed to correct issues.Ability to professionally manage interactions with challenging customers.Attention to detail; keeping and maintaining accurate and detailed reports and records.Ability to move and work in confined spaces, up and down ladders and to work from ladders, scaffolding and bucket truck platformAbility to lift 40 pounds from ground to overhead; Occasionally work outside during inclement conditions.Ability to pass a physical exam for clearance to wear a respirator when/if working near hazardous environments.Qualifications:Education:
High School diploma, GED, or trade specific training through trade school, apprenticeship or equivalent requiredExperience:
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a journeyman required, with experience in a large institutional (college, university, hospital, etc.) setting preferred.Knowledge of installation and repair of plaster, stucco, ceramic tile preferred.Requirements:Successful Background Check and Valid PA Driver's LicensePA Child Protection Clearances (Act 153)Motor Vehicle Records (conducted annually)Fitness for duty assessment and pre-employment medical examPre-employment drug and alcohol screenAdditional Information:
