Master HVAC Technician
Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for the effective operation of the HVAC /Mechanical systems throughout the University’s network of campuses. Includes participating in the repair, maintenance, renovation and new design of building HVAC /Mechanical systems. Provides guidance and professional leadership to other technicians as a member of the HVAC /Mechanical shop. + Aids in the work assigned to the HVAC /Mechanical shop. + Develops solutions to specific systems along with acting as a liaison between other departments representatives as it concerns code requirements, corrections, or operational problems. + Aids in the maintenance, repair, and replacement of systems components and controls for heating and cooling systems. + Will work with outside agencies as well as affected departments within the University on all systems. + Maintains accurate records on major maintenance, repair and replacement of equipment and other records as required. + Interprets working details of work orders, and other specifications as required. + Responds to emergencies and after-hours maintenance as conditions dictate. + Assists in the documentation of current and future repair, maintenance and general improvements to the physical facilities. + Enforces approved policies, procedures and codes. + Maintains a safe working environment and enforces safe working practices. + Communicates with faculty, staff, employees, students, vendors and contractors in an effective manner. + Other duties as assigned. Minimum Education Requirements: + High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements: + Five years’ work experience in the field of HVAC . + KY HVAC Master’s License, or ability to obtain one within six months of employment, is required. + Two years supervisory experience directly involved with HVAC . + Experience in HVAC field in an institutional or related setting. + Experience with heating and air conditioning, boiler and hot water systems, chillers, cooling towers, refrigeration, dryers, emergency power generators and other basic physical plant and equipment items. + Vocational training may be exchanged for a portion of experience at one-half times per year. + Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet the requirements to operate a University vehicle. + Ability to comply with University and departmental safety policies and procedures. + Demonstrated ability in energy conservation. + Demonstrated ability to direct and organize multiple operations simultaneously. + Ability to maintain records and make reports from such records. + Ability to read HVAC blueprints and schematics. + Willingness to work with and learn computer software applications. + Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. + Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively. + Ability to respond to emergencies outside of normal work hours. Special Instructions to Applicants: Along with the application, the following items must be included. + Letter of application + Resume Work Hours: + Eight hours per day, five days per week; occasional overtime. + Emergency callback after hours and on weekends. + This position will be required to work to provide critical services during University holidays, closures, and other emergencies, as needed. Critical services refer to the units that ensure the continuation of key operations and services that directly relate to the security, safety, and/or physical operation of the University (including services to students).
