Recruitment/Posting Title Master Plumber Steamfitter Job Category AFSCME Local 888 Department IPO-Facilities Utilities Overview The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations. Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Master Plumber Steamfitter for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O).
Among the key duties of this position are the following: Provides trade, technical and code compliance leadership in all aspects of plumbing, pipefitting and mechanical duties required for University facilities and utilities. Provides comprehensive plans for proposed work. Leads and overseas the work of lower level maintenance mechanics through the successful completion of projects. Primarily responsible for the planning, estimating, material procurement and coordination of complex and general plumbing/pipefitting work to include; the installation and maintenance of steam, high temperature hot water, chill-water, hot water, air, gas, pressure vessels and systems; boilers; steam and hot water converters; heaters/storage/converter tanks; valves; strainers; safety valves; pneumatic systems; compressed air; waste and sanitary systems; laboratory waste piping; neutralization tanks; hydraulic systems; D.I. water softener systems; RO water systems; sewage ejectors; single and multi stage pumps; piping insulation and any other related equipment or system. Inspects, maintains and upgrades facilities piping, pressure/storage vessel, and pumping systems. Utilizes trade knowledge to ensure work is effectively and efficiently completed, and that all installed equipment conforms to code. Expected to have thorough knowledge and experience working with and installing various piping materials such as steel, cast iron, ductle iron, PVC, copper, CPVC, various kinds of plastic tubing, and insulation materials. Maintains the asset data files through Aim Preventative work order management system. As the expert troubleshooter, uses a variety of tools and devices to diagnose problems and restore service. Works with the supervisor to establish and implement preventive maintenance systems. Detects faulty operation of equipment and reports questionable conditions to supervisor. Instructs personnel in all safety rules and LOTO procedures in the performance of duties. Performs related duties as required.
