Material Handler 1

PURPOSE: The Material Handler I reports directly to the Material Supervisor and utilizes knowledge of design build electrical industry materials to perform logistics tasks such as receiving, storing, and issuing materials, equipment, and other items from the M.C. Dean warehouse and from suppliers. The Material Handler I has a solid understanding of the Logistics Service Center processes and procedures and works on a wide variety of tasks and may assist with solving problems.

Responsible for: 

Receiving, verifying, and counting stock items and keeping record of the corresponding data as appropriate. Verifying specific inventory computations by comparing them to physical counts of stock. Investigating inventory discrepancies and reconciling errors accordingly.  Packing and unpacking items to be stocked on shelves in material storage areas. Marking stock items using identification tags, stamps, electronic marking tools, and other labeling equipment.  Cleaning and maintaining supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas in order to ensure compliance with safety regulations.  Determining proper storage methods based on stock location, turnover, environmental factors, and physical capabilities of the facility.  Storing stock items in an orderly, safe and accessible manner within the warehouses, supply rooms, material storage and lay down areas.  Examining and inspecting stock items for wear or defects, and subsequently reporting any damage to supervisors.  Maintaining documented records, which outline the usage of stock and stock handling equipment.  Maintaining documented records, which outline the damage of stock and stock handling equipment. Developing a working knowledge of and using internal software systems including the Material Requisition System, Equipment Transfer System, and Procurement Mobile. Demonstrating understanding of the design build electrical industry as it relates to M.C. Dean processes and procedures within the Logistics Service Center, and utilizing such knowledge to respond effectively to inquiries, questions, and concerns. Demonstrating understanding of materials and equipment within the M.C. Dean environment, and assisting with the training and mentoring of less experienced staff when appropriate. Consistently maintaining a high level of productivity as made evident by completing all assigned projects and tasks within the appropriate time frame and in accordance with any scheduled deadlines. Utilizing advanced reporting and tracking functions within Microsoft (MS) Excel. Consistently demonstrating verbal and written communication (it use of (MS) Outlook) skills that are professional and appropriate at all levels. Providing assistance to other project staff as needed.

2-3 years of demonstrated experience with a High School Diploma or 1-2 years with an Associate’s Degree and proficiency with electrical design build industry materials and equipment, and Logistics Service Center processes and procedures at M.C. Dean, including but not limited to the following skills and abilities:

Must have demonstrated experience and proficiency with intermediate level MS Excel and Outlook. Must have excellent reporting and tracking skills, along with a consistent record of accomplishment of accuracy, high productivity, professional level work ethic, and strict compliance with safety policies and procedures. Must demonstrate competency with managing critical tasks individually such as controlling the consignment programs, tool management, managing the lay down area, and/or loading and unloading zones and various other individual responsibilities as assigned.

Abilities:

Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period of time. Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance. Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders. Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis. Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English. May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools. Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.  It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem. Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense. Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events). See details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
