Job Description
The material handler will begin with a month of training, focusing on general clean-up, learning color codes for steel, warehouse placement, and crane operation based on previous experience. Candidates must be prepared to walk for 8-10 hour shifts, covering roughly 8 miles a day, and be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors, exposed to various weather conditions. The role involves operating cranes, loading flatbed trailers and railcars, rigging, inventory management, and adhering to safety rules.
ResponsibilitiesPerform general clean-up and learn color codes for steel.Operate indoor and outdoor cranes.Load flatbed trailers and railcars, including rigging and climbing onto flatbeds.Receive inventory and move materials using overhead cranes.Fill out shipping reports and bills of lading.Ensure safety by adhering to all safety rules and being visible to other associates.Possibly train to operate saws, brake operators, and forklifts.Learn and retain inventory system based on color-coded beam ends.Essential SkillsWarehouse inventory management.Heavy industry experience.Material handling and equipment operation.Crane operation and truck loading.1-2 years of construction or manufacturing experience.Experience with machine operation, forklift, bobcat, overhead crane, and band saw.Ability to read a tape measure.Ability to lift up to 50lbs and operate heavy equipment safely.Additional Skills & QualificationsHeavy industrial or construction experience required.Experience with overhead cranes in a heavy industry or military setting preferred.Candidates from traditional warehouse settings (e.g., Amazon, food logistics) will not be a fit.Must be flexible for day shift training for a few days up to 2 weeks before moving to their regular shift.Why Work Here?

Work Environment

The facility spans 200,000 square feet and has a construction-like atmosphere. Safety gear including hard hats, steel-toed boots, and safety vests is mandatory. All current openings are on the second shift, starting at 2:30 PM for a 2:45 PM safety meeting.
