MATERIAL HANDLER
Summary You will serve as a MATERIAL HANDLER in the PRODUCTION DIVISION of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC. Responsibilities You will receive all incoming materials to verify receipt of correct items, notes shortages or overages and physical conditions by visually checking and counting the contents of containers. You will complete receiving documents and determine if material is for stock or immediate use. You will store stock items, palletize and assemble material as required for specific projects. You will select and set up specific storage locations according to use, shape, nomenclature, space available, turnover, and convenience of handling. You will order parts, supplies and materials required for accomplishment of work projects relative to the maintenance, alteration and repair of the physical plant. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Accepting deliveries of material and supplies from local vendors; 2) Certifying completeness and accuracy of deliveries and receipts; 3) Calling vendors on incorrect/incomplete deliveries and notes discrepancies; 4) Holding materials in designated area for reshipment or disposal of misrouted materials and follows up on incomplete deliveries; 5) Checking, counting, and inspecting materials for damage and identifies discrepancies. This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision. Physical Effort: Perform work on hard surfaces, requiring constant maneuvering, jarring, turning, stopping, starting, lifting, pushing, and mounting/dismounting a forklift. Incumbent' s duties require frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing and crouching. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside or outside, in heated or unheated buildings; on even and rough terrain; subject to danger and injury from falling objects, collision with other vehicles, gas fumes, running off ramps and platforms. Sometimes work is performed during adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes. Incumbent is subject to call back when justified in emergency situation.
