The role of a Materials Developer within the Outdoor Performance platform team is crucial for enhancing product innovation and ensuring high-quality standards. As a Materials Developer, you play a vital role in creating cutting-edge and functional products that align with the brand's requirements for performance, quality, and aesthetics. Your responsibilities include working closely with various teams such as designers, lab technicians, and merchandising to transform ideas into tangible products. Collaboration is key as you navigate the journey from concept creation to final production, ensuring that the development process runs smoothly and efficiently.
This position reports to the Sr. Manager, Materials & Testing and is based out of our Bozeman, MT office.
As the Materials Developer, you will have an opportunity to:
Collaborate with sr. materials manager and design team to develop fabrics that aligns with brand identity and customer needs. Support the senior materials manager with research and development for materials for outdoor performance apparel, considering factors like durability, comfort, and performance. Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturers to source high-quality materials.Work closely with key stakeholders to ensure that fabrics are technically feasible and can be manufactured effectively. Create and maintain seasonal development and commercialization schedule for fabric testing and lab dip process.Communicate and partner with Ops on buy ready dates for sales sample yardage and tracking status.Collaborate with the product development team to assess cost and make recommendations to meet budgetary constraints while maintaining product quality.Establish and implement quality control standards and procedures to ensure that finished products meet quality and performance expectations.Stay informed about industry trends, competitor products, and customer preference to drive product innovation and differentiation.Review and comment on mills color, print and hand loom approvals.Manage the flow of seasonal fabric testing at HQ in-house lab and 3rd party lab testing.You have:
Bachelor’s degree in textile or design or related experience.Minimum 5 years of experience in product development, focused on outdoor performance apparel sourced both domestically and offshore (particularly in Asia) is highly desirableExcellent proficiency in MS Office applications primarily Excel, PowerPoint, Word, IllustratorStrong, collaborative, teamwork skillsAbility to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationshipsExcellent time management and organizational skillsAbility to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goalsStrong multi-tasking and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple complex projects and work independently within deadlinesPay Range:
Annual Salary: $68,000.00 - $80,000.00The actual annual salary offered to a candidate will be based on variables including experience, geographic location, education, and skills/achievements, and will be mutually agreed upon at the time of offer.
