What you will do:

The Materials Engineer is responsible for selecting the best materials for specific purposes; testing materials under different conditions to assess how resistant they are, i.e. to heat, corrosion, or chemical attack; test different alloys to discover an exceptionally strong combination of metals to use in the chemical processes; developing materials selection, engineering and corrosion prevention and management standards and facilitating the use of these standards across the US Region. It also serves as a subject matter expert (SME) for the sustainability of these standards. This position will identify and drive the development and implementation of the most suitable materials of construction as well as Corrosion Management best practices in the region in collaboration with local plant engineering, operations, and maintenance counterparts.

 

Identify and drive the development and implementation of corrosion maintenance programs and best practices in the region.  Provide expertise to establish and further develop sustainable materials selection and engineering concepts and methods in collaboration with local plant engineering, operations, and maintenance counterparts.  Develop and provide the tools necessary to conduct monitoring and analysis. Guide, track, and communicate regional Corrosion Management metrics and reporting systems. Mentor regional engineers, maintenance and Mechanical Integrity Teams on proper use and development of the tools Assist and support local counterparts (plant and project engineering, etc.) to identify, collect, analyze, and manage various types of data to track asset integrity so to minimize failures and improve performance.  Will recommend and facilitate materials failure analysis, and other types of root cause analysis in support of asset reliability. Develop the tools to identify repeat or long-term mechanical issues and work with appropriate plant engineer to resolve the issue. Provide expert advice to support project engineering to specify the design and installation requirements for new plants proactively to ensure most suitable materials are selected. Organizational and program development – Propose training programs and identify minimum required skills for the Engineers Development program.  Work with Plant and Project engineering to oversee operational quality control processes for materials applications Identify and develop external resources and partners to supply most suitable materials, testing facilities, and benchmark practices close cooperation with global and local counterparts Other duties as required

 

What we need from you:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required Minimum of 5 years’ experience in engineering is required; at least 3 years’ experience in materials engineering is preferred Certified in Metallography/Metallurgy or Materials Engineering preferred Must be willing to travel up to 20% of time Demonstrated Research skills: expert researchers who can efficiently gather information, develop experiments, collect data and draw meaningful conclusions Solid use of analytical skills to identify the unique properties of the materials, interpret research findings and understand the reasons for material failures Problem-solving skills: To explore design or structural problem, brainstorm material-based solutions and perform tests to compare ideas. Utilize creativity and adaptability to consider previously unexplored materials possibilities Lead teams of engineers and scientists when developing materials. Leadership skills empower the team to collaborate productively, create respectful work environments, improve employees' performance, and provide constructive feedback Knowledge of Standards such as ASTM, ASME and ANSI/NACE Ability to mentor, train, facilitate, and influence others in the use of testing and monitoring tools and systems
