Job Title: Materials Engineer
Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Materials Engineer to perform sample preparation for materials and metallurgical testing. The ideal candidate will have experience in polishing, chemical etchants, ultrasonic cleaning, magnetic particle inspection, hardness, and microhardness testing. You will utilize metallurgical microscopes and stereoscopes to determine hardness and compile testing data for failure analysis. Additionally, you will use image analysis software to review materials before and after tests and maintain a clean, safe work environment in the laboratory.

ResponsibilitiesPerform sample preparation for materials and metallurgical testing.Conduct materials and metallurgical testing including polishing, chemical etchants, ultrasonic cleaning, magnetic particle inspection, hardness, and microhardness testing.Utilize metallurgical microscopes and stereoscopes to determine hardness.Compile testing data to determine failure analysis results and share data with other departments.Use image analysis software to review materials before and after tests.Maintain a clean, safe work environment and manage laboratory equipment.Essential SkillsThree to five years of experience in materials testing, specifically metals testing.Experience with metallurgical sample preparation, macro/micro-hardness testing, microstructure analysis, and interpretation.Heat treatment experience in a manufacturing environment.Experience in failure analysis of metal components.Proficiency in using SEM Microscope, EDS Microscopy, and image analysis software.Additional Skills & QualificationsBachelor's or Associate degree in Material Science, Material Engineering, Metallurgy, or related fields.Metallurgical degree or a materials engineering degree focused on metals.Experience in failure analysis, materials science, and materials engineering.Work Environment

This position is located at a large office with a specific materials testing lab. You will be part of a team including a supervisor and three or four other technicians. You may also interact with other engineers on projects, requiring good communication skills. This is a 1st shift position starting at around 7:00 a.m. with some flexibility, roughly a 40-hour work week with the possibility of overtime if needed.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.85 - $43.27
