Materials Engineering Intern -  BWX Technologies, Inc.  -  Euclid, OH

Provide the Materials Engineering group with hands-on, technical and administrative support of Materials Engineering functions. A basic understanding of metallurgical principles is desired, including material properties, materials testing, phase transformation and heat treating. Attention to detail and thoroughness of work are critical. This position reports to the Materials Engineering Manager.

 

Responsibilities:

Hands-on heat treatment of tooling and R&D material. Perform & document furnace temperature uniformity surveys. Hands-on and administrative support of materials-related projects/studies/investigations including forging, thermal processing, plating, corrosion and cleaning processes. Interpret/understand material, processing and testing specifications/standards. Ability to research and understand metallurgical phenomena. Materials-related data analysis and database creation/management. Material sample inventorying. Possible metallurgical laboratory support. Work with Materials, NDE, Quality, Purchasing, Floor Supervisors/Personnel and Suppliers as needed.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Enrollment into a Materials Science and Engineering BS program. Attention to detail and self-motivation to complete tasks thoroughly. Strong verbal skills and clear, concise compositional skills.

 Pay: $23.83 - $29.81

 

The starting hourly rate for this position in Ohio (US-OH)  at the start of employment is expected to be between $23.83  and $29.81  per hour.  The hourly rate offered is based on local job market factors and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify the hourly rate (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation, or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or applicable department/team performance, and other market factors.
