Project Description:
Fleet Materials Engineering is an integral plant support team within the power generating infrastructure that provides regional expertise in Code welding repairs, metallurgical analyses, plant life management (PLM) and conditions assessments, non-destructive testing and examination. Engineering internship will focus primarily on PLM activities involving plant risk and reliability caused by the failure of specific plant components. This is achieved by performing engineering calculations, inspections, and evaluations regarding component repair or modification, failure analysis, material condition assessments, fitness for service, and future inspection interval determination in order to ensure the safe and reliable operation of plant components within the PLM program. Example of a project description: Work with the PLM Engineering staff to support system or equipment condition assessment, testing, inspection, data collection/review, and failure analyses during plant overhauls or other inspection events. This would include working as an entry-level engineering analyst performing tasks that support the tools, programs, software, and databases for various PLM evaluations, causal analyses, and risk mitigation of high energy piping and pipe hanger/support inspections and load analyses. Through practical application and mentoring, a successful candidate will gain valuable knowledge of power plant systems and processes working collaboratively in a team environment. This will be a summer opportunity with the potential to extend into a school semester. The candidate should be able to work full-time during the summer. If the intern works during the school year, their hours should be part-time.
