Materials Manager

As the Materials Manager, you will lead all aspects of inventory control, ensuring a steady flow of materials to support production. Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will oversee shipping, receiving, planning, and inventory control personnel. This role involves heavy finite scheduling, collaborating with internal teams, managing supplier relationships, and coordinating supply chain activities. Your success depends on strong organizational skills, attention to detail, effective negotiation, and the ability to maintain optimal inventory levels.

You Will:

Maintain a high level of performance for on-time shipments to customers.

Oversee shipping, receiving, planning, and inventory control personnel.

Develop, implement, and refine policies, procedures, and material control systems to reduce costs, streamline processes, and enhance efficiency.

Plan and execute activities related to timely, cost-effective procurement, inventory control, planning, and quality control of production materials.

Ensure balanced inventory levels to prevent stockouts, reduce cash flow issues, and support production and customer needs.

Guarantee continuous inventory supply, maintain proper inventory turns, control backorders, and eliminate past-due backlog.

Collaborate with Marketing and Sales to forecast new product timelines and sales, anticipating inventory needs and cash flow requirements.

Provide leadership to Planning personnel for effective use of Master Production Schedules and Material Requirements Planning Systems.

Prepare and issue purchase orders and change notices, reviewing claims and contracts for adherence to company policy.

Assign procurement requests to appropriate personnel and arrange the disposal of surplus materials.

You Have:

Bachelor’s degree in Business or Engineering, or equivalent education and experience.

10+ years of related experience in manufacturing, supply chain, or materials management.

Lean and/or Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification.

Ability to interpret various forms of business, technical, and regulatory information.

Strong writing and communication skills for reports, correspondence, and presentations.

Proficiency with mathematical concepts, statistical methods, and geometric principles.

Problem-solving capabilities with limited standardization and multiple variable conditions.

Familiarity with ERP systems, database and internet software, and Microsoft 365.

Experience supervising shipping, receiving, and inventory control personnel.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, talk, and/or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

Work in both office and manufacturing environment. May occasionally be required to perform job duties outside the typical office setting.
