This position will be a part of a new start-up Joint Venture Seating JIT Assembly plant located in the Detroit, MIchigan.

Role Summary

Material Supervisor plans, directs and coordinates activities relating to the materials department activities including safety, quality, productivity and employee relations. Supervises the Materials department’s Team Leaders, Sequencer/Tuggers and Forklift Truck Drivers.

Key Responsibilities

•    Supervises daily activities of the Materials department’s Team Leaders, Sequencer/Tuggers and Forklift Truck Drivers.
•    Plans, directs and coordinates all inbound, outbound movement of material within the JIT manufacturing facility.
•    Assists the Materials Superintendent in determining and managing appropriate manpower requirements.
•    Assists in managing material cycle counts and annual physical inventory reconciliation.
•    Participates and leads process improvement projects: productivity, quality, ergonomics, etc.
•    Trains new and transferred employees on their job duties and responsibilities, and cross trains as necessary.
•    Ensures employees are consistently adhering to standardized work processes and rotation schedules.
•    Ensures all Company policies, procedures, plant standards and safety rules are consistently adhered to.
•    Collaborates with the Department Manager and Human Resources Manager in the administration of disciplinary action, when necessary.
•    Monitors, maintains and records employees’ time related to the Attendance and Time-Off Policies (e.g. vacation, medical day, bereavement, jury duty, etc).  Records approved time-off requests in E-Time; and ensures required time-off requests with supporting documentation are processed completely and timely.
•    Provides timely feedback on work performance including but not limited to safety/housekeeping, quality/accuracy, quantity, attendance/punctuality, job knowledge, adaptability, initiative, teamwork/communication and judgment/comprehension.  Ensures timely completion of performance reviews based on established schedule.
•    Track IB/OB shipments; communicate with 3PL/Transportation companies on shipment status/location.
•    Coordinate expedites of production material from suppliers as needed in support of established production requirements.
•    Track and coordinate returnable dunnage to all assigned suppliers.
•    Maintain scheduled delivery log.
•    Complete daily Standardized Work Sheet and related weekly audits.
•    Supports and enforces Company goals and objectives, and decisions and policies by taking ownership and communicating these in a positive and supportive manner.
•    Displays a positive attitude towards safety, works safely and follows all the Company's safety policies and procedures.
•    Complies with all Health, Safety and Environmental standards in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Michigan Occupational Health & Safety Act.
•    Ensures all employees and visitors have a safe environment in that safety and housekeeping standards are maintained; and all hazards, unsafe actions, or unsafe conditions have been identified, corrected, and/or eliminated.
•    Responds to and investigates all reports of injuries, accidents, illnesses, near misses and property damage immediately.
•    Takes an active part in the division’s safety program by performing regular workplace inspections, effectively investigates accidents/incidents promptly, and assists in meeting or exceeding the division’s safety goals.
•    Completed other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:
•    High school diploma or equivalent. 
•    Powered Industrial Truck Permit (requires a passing score on the Powered Industrial Truck training tests administered by LM Manufacturing)

 

EXPERIENCE:
•    Minimum of two (2) years of materials supervisory experience or a minimum of five (5) years of materials team leadership experience in a tier-one automotive manufacturing facility.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•    Team oriented, communicates well with others, and able to interact with people at all levels and departments.
•    Excellent problem solving and leadership skills.
•    Detail oriented and excellent documentation skills.
•    Working knowledge of safety standards and OSHA guidelines.
•    Working knowledge of Excel.
•    Proficient in MRP systems.

Additional Information

Work performed in an office and manufacturing plant environments.  Normal mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer.  Frequently exposed to varying temperature within plant depending upon external weather condition.  Frequently walks, stands, grips/grasps, bends/stoops, crouches and lifts and carries up to forty (40) lbs.  Frequently pushes/pulls or carries material bins/carts up to forty (40) lbs.  Operates a tugger and forklift as needed.  Must be available to work weekends and holidays as needed.
