Materials Test Technician (2nd shift) Job Locations US-IN-Daleville ID 2024-15156 Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Materials Test Technician (2nd shift) to join our growing team. In this role, you will conduct a wide range of mechanical testing of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Provide technical assistance to customers and co-workers, with focus on quality, standardization, and continuous improvement.This position will work closely with the department manager in facilitating the preparation of test specimens and testing in order to meet customer turn time and requests.

Responsibilities  Perform mechanical testing and speciman conditioning (HT) in accordance with company goals, quality system, and test procedures/methods.
• Provide technical support for quotation and pricing.
• Aid in writing, review and development of procedures for testing and/or sample preparation.
• Use calibrated hand tools such as micrometer, caliper, compass, and ruler to take measurements and record them into the test records.
• Ensure that all equipment (standards) used for performing tests are calibrated prior to use. Record and maintain maintenance history of the lab equipment.
• Communicate any issues (safety, product flow, equipment, etc.) to management and mechanical test team members.
• Perform all work using the job safety requirements and proper PPE.
• Interpret specifications/standards to ensure correct application to testing.
• Review Mechanical test results for accuracy, completeness, and consistency to specification requirements.
• Participate in proficiency/round robin testing and quality audits.
• Support the development and implementation of process monitoring to reduce of lead time, reduce of waste, and to meet or exceed customer expectations.
• Support the implementation of the Quality Assurance Program and emphasize the importance of quality workmanship, as well as investigate, assist and provide root cause corrective action.
• Participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives including 5S and Operational Excellence.
• Support the establishment of best practice procedures, methodologies, and standards for the department using resources in industry standards and engaged experts throughout the company.
• Support management in conducting research and the implementation of ideas to improve the use of new technology in the department.
• Maintain qualifications to local procedures.
• Participate in team-oriented discussions to decrease turn time, reduce cost, reduce waste, and meet or exceed customer expectations. Skills / Qualifications

Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Use of a calculator to multiply and divide numbers and apply rounding rules. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Conversant in both English and metric systems.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases.
