**Employment Type:** Full time **Shift:** **Description:** ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: · Follows established procedures and policies including infection control and blood borne pathogens. · Performs specimen processing including proper identification, special handling and required documentation. · Uses computers to order tests, enter comments, and print results for laboratory staff. · Handles incoming and outgoing telephone calls utilizing good customer service skills and knowledge of the laboratory. · Proficiently uses office equipment to provide clerical support and maintain files. · Follows clinic procedure/protocol for the organization and management of the electronic medical record (i.e. test results, retrieval, filing, creation, repair, charging of electronic medical record). · Fully understands and is committed to providing quality service to all clients both internal and external. · Responsible for maintaining strict confidentiality of patient information. · Performs laboratory testing (including phlebotomy and a variety of routine and/or automated tests), and maintains records of tests performed and results received. · Reports results and pertinent information to patient and health care team members. · Documents lab results in electronic medical record accurately. · Follows safe work practices. · Maintains professional appearance of lab and drawing areas · Demonstrates current level of knowledge of various payor regulations by functioning within those guidelines. · Performs quality control and proficiency testing as directed by lab technician · Performs basic troubleshooting of instruments and procedures. · Complies with regulatory agencies (i.e. CLIA, COLA, OSHA in operation of lab). · Responsible for reporting technical problems and ensure that remedial actions are taken whenever tests deviate from established performance specifications MARGINAL FUNCTIONS: · Work includes cross coverage in other clinic areas as team needs. · Maintains supply inventory and stocks supplies in various work areas. · Responsible for following equipment maintenance protocol, identifying problems, and coordinating appropriate repairs. · Operates various office machines (i.e. fax, copier, phone and computer). · Misc. office duties (i.e. copying, filing, retrieval of electronic medical records) · Participates in Performance Improvement projects. MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: · High school diploma or GED required. · Medical terminology and experience preferred. · Minimum of one year of college level healthcare education (medical assisting, nursing, medical school, laboratory technician) or experience · Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire. · Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained by the end of the orientation period (approximately six (6) weeks). **Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion** Trinity Health is one of the largest not-for-profit, Catholic healthcare systems in the nation.
