Job Description

Primary Duties: The Automotive Mechanic’s primary responsibility is to add value to each client’s transaction ensuring that they are satisfied with their experience buying at Western Auto and that upon leaving the store are completely satisfied with their purchase. Using technical knowledge, removes, repairs, or replaces and installs automotive parts using the tools, equipment, or the manual procedures that are safe and appropriate. Performs other automotive mechanical services as needed and authorized.

Reads and comprehends training manuals, service tickets, etc. Has extensive knowledge about vehicles and Western Auto services - brakes, alignment, air conditioning, suspension, front wheel assembly repair, etc. Checks basic elements of the vehicle according to Western Auto’s methods for mechanical, electric, and courtesy inspections. Uses the diagnostic and alignment machines correctly. Has a valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and the ability to drive cars with manual or automatic transmissions. Must have their own tools. Handles a fast-paced work environment, stress, and stressful situations in a professional manner. Answers customer’s questions related to finished service work and the vehicle’s related problems. Operates the workshop lifts appropriately. Is competitive and has a team player’s attitude. Follows EPA standards in terms of the work requirements, specifications, and products, materials, and equipment management. Follows Western Auto and OSHA requirements to promote and provide a safe workplace. Performs maintenance tasks - sweeping/mopping the workshop floor, cleaning/maintaining the equipment, emptying the garbage bins, cleaning the parking area, etc. Follows the company guidelines in terms of protection, safety, hygiene, and the dress code.

Physical Requirements:

This job requires continually standing, bending, kneeling, twisting, turning around, climbing, and lifting and carrying weights up to approximately 75 lbs. (sometimes the weight will exceed 75 lbs). Performs additional tasks as required.

Master Technician Training Requirements:

Obtains and keeps up-to-date the ASE Certification in brakes or suspension and steering within two (2) test periods starting from the date hired. Completes the Western Auto orientation training. Obtains and keeps up to date their license as a Master Technician and that of the College of Automotive Technicians and Mechanics.
