Overview:
Honeywell HPS-PAS Mechanical COE is looking for a skilled and motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer with expertise in Battery Energy Storage Systems and Renewable Energy. As part of this role, you'll help the R&D Technology and Execution team design, develop, and maintain products and solutions, including underlying systems and architecture. You will collaborate with other R&D teams, Contract Manufacturers, and Project Engineers to deliver top-notch products using established standards and processes.
Your responsibilities include:
· Work alongside the Product Owner, Stakeholders, and Scrum Team to comprehend the mechanical requirements for the Battery Energy Storage System, and to establish and execute the optimal design.
· Creating mechanical designs for enclosures, castings, plastic parts, and movable elements.
· Creating designs that prioritize structural integrity and optimize flow performance.
· Join Scrum meetings with the team, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily scrum meetings, sprint reviews.
· Enhance the product's functionality, usability, testability, performance, and production stability.
· Communicate effectively across multiple teams, stakeholders, and customers.
· Collaborating with varied teams across different departments.
· Ensuring the effective implementation and execution of processes and workflows, alongside identifying opportunities for improvement.
· Working together with departments such as program management, quality, purchasing, and suppliers to resolve technical questions regarding your products.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering;
5+ years’ experience in Mechanical product development in BESS Domain
Must have expertise and practical knowledge in:
· Design
1. Concept Development: Ability to create innovative designs based on customer needs and technical specs.
2. Create enclosures that comply with UL50 E and ISO Container standards.
3. Detailing and Drafting: Experience with detailed drawings, assemblies, and BOMs.
4. Dimensioning and Tolerance: Knowledge of dimensioning and tolerancing for manufacturability and quality and applying GD&T symbols in drawings.
5. Choosing commercial off-the-shelf parts that meet regulatory standards.
6. Creating ECN’s and following the PDM process.
· Structural Design and Analysis:
1. Container Design: Create and evaluate the mechanical structure for battery module containers.
2. Racking Systems: Develop and analyze support systems for battery modules inside the container.
3. Vibration Analysis: Evaluate the vibrational properties to ensure structural integrity and avoid damage.
4. Thermal Management: Design cooling solutions to dissipate heat from batteries and maintain optimal temperatures.
· Materials Science
1. Corrosion Prevention: Develop strategies to prevent corrosion in battery components and container structures.
· Manufacturing and Assembly
1. Understanding manufacturing operations, including welding, machining, sheet metal work, assembly, cabling, and piping, to streamline and economize BESS production.
2. Supply Chain Management: Managing the sourcing and delivery of materials and components required for BESS projects.
3. Working on prototypes and PoCs.
· Safety and Regulatory Compliance
1. Risk Assessment: Perform risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement necessary mitigation strategies.
2. Grounding and Bonding: Understand the importance of proper grounding and bonding to prevent electrical hazards.
3. Isolation: Be aware of isolation techniques used in BESS to separate electrical circuits and minimize risks.
· Proficiency in CAD Tools
1. CAD Mastery: Expertise in CAD software like Creo, AutoCAD, SolidWorks.
2. Specialized Tools: Skills in tools like Ansys.
· Collaboration and Teamwork
1. Version Control: Use of version control systems (e.g., Collaborator, TeamCenter) for managing design files and teamwork.
· Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills
1. Troubleshooting: Identify and solve design issues like geometric errors or manufacturing constraints.
2. Optimization: Skills in optimizing designs for cost, weight, or performance
Nice to have knowledge in:
1. Thermal Management Systems: Crafting and improving cooling systems, such as liquid cooling and forced air cooling, to control battery temperature and prevent thermal runaway.
2. Quality Control: Apply quality control protocols to guarantee the reliability and safety of the BESS system.
3. Understanding of safety and regulatory standards such as UL 9450, UL 9450A, UL 1973, IEC 62619, IEC 62993, and NFPA855 guidelines.
