Common repairs include but are not limited to air and hydraulic brakes, engine and transmission, drive assemblies, heating and air conditioning, exhaust and emission control, steering and suspension, PTO and hydraulic systems, and engine rebuilds. Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Three years of experience or training as a mechanic. Job Concepts FUNCTION OF WORK: To perform skilled maintenance and repair of small engines and mobile equipment. LEVEL OF WORK: Advanced. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Direct from a Mechanic Supervisor or higher level maintenance personnel. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None. LOCATION OF WORK: May be used by all state agencies. JOB DISTINCTIONS: Differs from Mechanic 2 by the presence of independent responsibility for repair and overhaul of complex specialized systems such as hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and/or electronic systems on mobile or stationary equipment. Incorporates visual and audible inspection with the use of a wide range of computerized test equipment such as electronic scanners, engine analyzers, exhaust analyzers, oscilloscopes, and various testers and meters as well as non-computerized test equipment to diagnose equipment/vehicles. Troubleshoots, tests and repairs electrical systems, electronic ignitions and fuel injection systems. Disassembles, diagnoses, overhauls, rebuilds, and/or repairs heavy equipment or complex systems such as engines, transmissions, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, gear reduction systems electrical systems, suspension systems, brake systems, exhaust emission control systems etc. Performs electrical fabrication on specialized equipment. May assist in the training of lower level mechanics on the repairs and testing of equipment. May operate wrecker to recover and transport inoperative vehicles.
