About This Position:
The primary purpose of this position is to provide service for equipment repair and maintenance. The incumbent is lead worker over subordinate mechanics, providing leadership, functional supervision and logistical support. The incumbent must be self-motivated and able to work independently; must be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they arise. The incumbent is required to have specialized knowledge and skills needed to safely repair light/heavy equipment including, but not limited to, small engines, tracked and rubber tired excavators, milling machines, asphalt paver, passenger cars and ½-1 ton pickup trucks, 3-16 cubic yard dump trucks, bucket truck, motor grader, sewer jet, boom mower tractor combinations, 5’-15’ rotary mowers, wheeled tractors, dozer, asphalt rollers, street sweepers, skid steer loader, forklift, small/large wheeled loaders and 40 ton cranes.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of experience as a mechanic.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Training as a mechanic from a trade school, vocational-technical school, or military school will substitute for the required experience. Training will be credited in six month increments.

Performs the duties as enumerated for Mechanic 3.
Directs the sequence of work and assigns tasks to subordinates.
Works with and sets the pace of work for assigned subordinates.
Assures that adequate supplies and equipment are available for subordinates.
Provides guidance and assists lower level mechanics.
Performs quality assurance/analysis on repaired vehicles and equipment.
May inspect work performed by contract vendors.
May operate wrecker to recover and transport inoperative vehicles.
