OVERVIEW

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing all routine building maintenance tasks.  The Maintenance Technician repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment; gear and sprocket drives, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, loading systems, production machines and equipment by performing the following duties. Also performs general cleaning other tasks as assigned.

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Conducts scheduled preventative maintenance on assigned equipment in accordance with standard procedures utilizing the PM system. Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and/or electrical/electronic equipment; tests and make final adjustments. Informs appropriate management of potential electrical/mechanical problems and recommends measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment. Guides the activities of contractors while also learning the work the contractor performs to reduce contractor costs. Performs layout, fabrication, installation, repairs, programming and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems throughout the site.  This includes but is not limited to analog and digital electrical and pneumatic instruments, transducers, transmitters, flow meters, chart recorders, analyzers, control valves, PID controllers, Programmable Logic Controllers, etc. Performs layout, fabrication, installation, repairs, programming and troubleshooting of electrical control systems and power generation/distribution systems throughout the site. This includes but is not limited to generators, transformers, switches, circuit breakers, motors, motor controls, hvac units, conduit systems, automatic equipment and packaging equipment. Utilizes SAP to enter/manage maintenance work orders. Performs work associated with the above to include but not limited to fabrication and installation of mounting systems, enclosures, tubing, fittings, piping valves, soldering, brazing, etc. Continuously learns new skills and tasks and improves upon current skills. Performs all ancillary work throughout the site, including, but not limited to rigging, scaffold erection, forklift operation and cleaning. Supports sister site in south Chicago as needed. All other duties as assigned.

 

WORK EXPERIENCES

3-5 years maintenance experience required, preferably within a food manufacturing facility. Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in manufacturing. Must have a working knowledge of electrical circuits and power supplies, screw conveyors, elevators, gearboxes, motors, agitators, packaging equipment, actuators, and valves. Demonstrated proficiency in all phases of mechanical and electrical repair including but not limited to; pump repair and rebuild, pipefitting, welding, fabricating, wiring and unwiring of equipment, and troubleshooting. Proven experience in the electrical/electronics, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic fields and the ability to demonstrate high proficiency in these areas. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems. Proven experience diagnosing problems, replacing and repairing parts, detecting and replacing defective items, testing and making final adjustments. Proficient in computer skills Proven experience with welding/fabrication on-the-job and formal certification Demonstrated ability to dismantle, rebuild and reassemble machinery using hand and power tools. Demonstrated ability to work from blueprints, electronic schematic diagrams, block diagrams, layouts or other specifications both verbal and written.

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred Electrical, welding, and/or mechanical certification preferred. Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

TRAVEL

When coverage is needed, employee may be asked to work at sister location in south Chicago.
