Performs assigned work relative to maintenance, repair, and inspection of motor vehicles for the Dallas Area Rapid Transit's (DART) Fleet Services Division.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs a variety of major repairs to engines, transmissions, and accessories, as well as air conditioning, heating, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.Overhauls major components such as engine, transmission, and differentials.Rebuilds other components such as engine accessories and vehicle support systems.Performs make-ready of new vehicles and preventive maintenance of revenue vehicles as required.Changes tires, fuels, and/or cleans/services vehicles as required.Makes service calls as required; operates vehicles if necessary.Promotes established safety, training, and quality assurance programs.Performs other related duties as assigned.MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.
Associate degree from an accredited college or university or certification from an accredited technical program in Automotive/Diesel Mechanics Technology or equivalent combination of education/experience.Must obtain and maintain certification(s) in compliance with all state and federal regulations applicable to perform this position's essential duties and responsibilities.Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely and read and comprehend a variety of technical manuals and safety regulations.Must have a valid Texas Commercial Drivers License (CDL) class B with Passenger Endorsement, no DWI/DUI conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months, not more than one (1) DWI/DUI on driving record, and not more than two (2) convictions of moving violations within the last thirty-six (36) consecutive months on driving record to operate DART non-revenue vehicles. Must obtain CDL within ninety (90) days upon hire.Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical (medical) examination, which includes a drug screen to operate DART revenue and non-revenue vehicles; incumbents are subject to the federal testing regulations of safety-sensitive positions, which include random alcohol and drug testing as a condition of continued employment.Operates DART non-revenue vehicles as required. Operates DART multi-axle vehicles, trucks, and service equipment as needed.Ability to work variable shifts, irregular hours, nights, holidays, weekends, and short notice availability. May be required to travel to multiple work locations.Ability to find solutions to mechanical and technical problems.Ability to quickly comprehend and process technically complex concepts; can learn new skills and knowledge through E-Learning or classroom instruction; is good at learning new industry, company, or technical expertise.Ability to use logic to solve complex problems effectively, looking beyond the obvious and not stopping at the first answers.Must be able to communicate effectively with the public, co-workers, supervisors, and managers to ensure efficient operations, promote safety, and respond to emergencies. Must also be able to read and comprehend a variety of work-related/required technical manuals, safety rules, and regulations.Must have excellent customer service skills and be able to interact effectively with a diverse customer population while under pressure.Ability to lift objects weighing up to seventy (70) pounds, such as tools, equipment, and parts; must be able to work in crowded and tight spaces on the vehicle, tunnel, and aerial structures.WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an environment where there is exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals, assuming the incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
