This position will be located at our Clearwater Regional Office located in Lewiston, Idaho. This position is an 8-month benefited temporary position and will work 40 hours a week. This position also involves, with or without reasonable accommodations, physical activities such as lifting and carrying items weighing approximately 50-60 pounds. Work may be required in remote and rugged terrain. Responsibilities: + Diagnoses mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems with large mainstem traps and equipment. + Estimates costs of repairs, labor, and parts. + Troubleshoots, repairs, overhauls, fabricates, and installs related mechanical and hydraulic systems. + Performs preventive maintenance. + Repairs and services small gasoline engines, power saws and other motorized equipment. + Operates equipment such as welders and cutting torches. + Cleans and maintains equipment and shop area. + Trains others in the maintenance and routine repair of equipment. + Prepares records of repairs, costs, and time involved. + Maintains inventory of supplies, parts, and materials. + May operate a computer for recordkeeping purposes. + Assists with the operation of the traps. + Assists the fisheries technicians with handling, PIT-tagging and collection of biological information from juvenile salmonids. Minimum Qualifications: (These qualifications are required.) + Some knowledge of the operation of internal combustion engines and related power trains, hydraulic, and electrical systems; servicing requirements and maintenance procedures for motor vehicles. (Typically gained by one year of experience performing automotive repair work in a facility where you worked on internal combustion engines and related power train electrical and hydraulic systems OR you have completed at least one year of automotive vocational school performing directly related work OR you have extensive personal background performing related work in a home shop or similar experience.) + Experience interpreting and applying technical information contained in mechanical maintenance service manuals. (Typically gained by at least six months of experience interpreting and applying technical information contained in mechanical maintenance service manuals.) + Experience listening to and visually inspecting vehicles to detect mechanical wear, damage, or reasons for failure. (Typically gained by one year of experience performing engine tune-ups and replacement of mechanical parts.) + Experience adjusting and repairing mechanical systems such as brakes, clutches, steering components, shock absorbers, and lighting equipment. (Typically gained by one year of experience adjusting and repairing mechanical systems such as brakes, clutches, steering components, shock absorbers, and lighting equipment.) + Experience using common tools associated with repair of motor vehicles and equipment. In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will have experience operating equipment such as welders, cutting torches, and chainsaws as well a boating and whitewater experience.
