Mechanic in Training

Repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment such as pumps, generators, electric motors, pneumatic pumps and tools, motor control centers, and control panels by performing the following duties.

Duties and responsibilities

Observe mechanical devices in operation and listen to their sounds to locate causes of troubleDismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective partsExamine form and texture of parts to detect imperfectionsInspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirementsAdjust functional parts of devices and control instrumentsRepair or replace defective partsInstall special functional and structural parts in devicesLubricate and clean partsStart devices to test their performanceInitiate purchase order parts and machinesRepair electrical equipmentAttend safety classes, reinforce and comply with company safety policiesWork harmoniously with ESG employees and the public and comply with ESG policies

Qualifications

Prefer three months of related experience, high school diploma or GED, or specialized vocational training. Must have a valid state driver’s license and meet minimum driving standards.

Knowledge of:

Problem Solving – identifying and resolving problems promptly, gathering and analyzing information skillfully, developing alternative solutionsComputerized maintenance management software used by ESG

Skill in:

Demonstrating persistence and overcoming obstaclesUsing equipment and materials properlyObserving safety and security procedures and in determining appropriate action beyond guidelinesGenerating suggestions for improving work and developing innovative approaches and ideas

Ability to:

Pursue training and development opportunities; continuously build knowledge and skillsRead and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manualsApply concepts of basic algebra and geometryApply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formDeal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

Working conditions

The position requires some responsibility for safety and health of others and/or for occasional enforcement of the standards of public safety or health.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical requirements

This position requires frequent standing, kneeling, bending and climbing. The employee must be able to use hands to operate and manipulate tools and equipment. This position requires very heavy physical exertion including the ability to lift over 50 pounds and exert over 100 pounds of force on a regular basis.

The employee must be willing to work non-standard and overtime hours as required.

The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, and depth perception.
