Reporting to the Senior Supervisor, Mechanical Design, the Co-op student will gain experience interfacing with all facets of ELCAN’s operations (Sales, Supply Chain, Design, and Manufacturing) throughout their 16 month placement.

During your co-op you will have the opportunity to work on exciting, novel and cutting edge technologies, helping to develop Raytheon ELCAN’s own products, participating in “Internal Research and Development”, and designing opto-mechanical systems for our Aerospace & Defense customers. The Co-op student will specifically gain experience in opto-mechanical design, mechanical design validation testing, and assembly and test processes. 

Education/Technical Requirements:

Enrollment in a University internship/co-op program, completing 3rd year in a 4-year program or 4th year of a 5-year program of Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
Preferred co-op term duration is 16 months.Hands on experience working with design software to create mechanical models, drawings and assembly drawings;  Autodesk Inventor experience preferredProficiency in reading and interpreting GD&T mechanical engineering drawingsAbility to develop basic test plans for mechanical parts and systemsExperience using mechanical test lab equipment to support execution of test plansUnderstanding of design for manufacturing and assembly principles

Must be a highly motivated self-starter and can work independently towards task completionEfficiently prioritize, organize and execute on given tasksStrong written and communication skills; interfacing with product development teamsAbility to be adaptive and take initiativeWork with a dynamic group of electrical, optical, mechanical designers

The successful candidate will be required to complete a criminal reference check and obtain/maintain a Government of Canada security clearance and any applicable clearances with respect to the handling and transfer of controlled goods.
